Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

Should have stopped this particular pairing after subbing the pair of them against Dortmund at home, which changed the game when he brought on Foden, Alvarez and Bernie.
The pathetic 1st half display from them both away at West Ham last season should have seen this partnership fucked off forever. How it is still a thing is beyond me.

Don’t really get what he’s trying to do with the team at the moment, which is really frustrating to watch.

Haaland is so cut off from the rest of the team, Mahrez slows us down so much, the defence is soft, Foden out of the team for some reason.

Hopefully he gets it going pronto in 2023 and we’ve got time to sort it.

We all love Pep. But to me he's gone down the same rabbit hole he did with Barcelona circa 2012. We are under no illusion that Haaland is fantastic, but the rest of the team is too slow. We have zero pace out wide. For the money spent, to end up with our wide options being Mahrez, Foden, Grealish and Palmer is piss poor. We have nobody who can stretch the pitch.

On reflection what appeared to be a couple of great transfer windows culminating with the arrival of Haaland now seem disappointing with Grealish not adding as much as the loss of Jesus, or even Sterling. Phillips well who the hell knows, Gomez for Zinchenko is a negative. Alvarez cannot get a start and I'm not sure our style of possession slow play suits him.

Absolutely amazing how this stubborn manager has been so successful in his career !
The reason he is so successful is he gets it right 9 times out of 10. But when he doesn't, and the team is playing like they did today, he can be very stubborn and doesn't change things up enough imo.

He needs two New Year's resolutions:

1.) Make a definitive decision on who his best players are for each respective position, and fucking stick to that team for PL/CL barring injuries or extreme fatigue.

2.) Overcome his chronic aversion to making substitutions early.

If he makes those two resolutions, I think we'll retain the league and have a great shot at the CL. If he doesn't, we've fucked it.

He needs to have some serious and Frank conversations with those above him over the course of the season, the squad is totally unbalanced, we have an abundance of players who are centrally biased but get played out wide, Pep has always said he would play a team of midfielders if he could and he is doing but it's making our football incredibly predictable and sometimes even boring in my opinion. Think we need to be brutal and get rid of a few central players one way or another and invest in some proper wingers (and play them on the right side). His stubbornness with regards to making changes is just bordering on ridiculousness at times as well, he was clearly annoyed today and trying to get the fans going a bit but it was a shit show and it started with a lineup that was struggling to create anything of note really, the fans generally react if the stuff on the pitch is entertaining.

Yeah.Rarity for him to score but the tempo of those 2 together and lack of genuine width was still standard that day
he wouldn't have scored if he'd been taken off at half time like the original poster said.
I'm in agreement, Jack & Mahrez doesnt work
