If we play Bernardo and Grealish, then we know that we’re less likely to penetrate teams down their flanks, but it also means we’re less likely to lose possession there. Instead, we’re going to have to create chances through the middle, which we did yesterday with our short, one-touch passing. It’s all a question of finding the right combination and balance of players for each particular opponent. We’re doing well just need to keep tweaking to get the maximum out of a very small squad.

I’d still like to see McAtee tried in the Bernardo role in the coming weeks (Prague/Southampton-off bench/Spurs), and I’d like to see us making changes in the engine room slightly earlier than has been the case. Anyone watching from higher up can see that as the game goes on, our midfield runners are getting further apart from their opponent runners as they chase back. It doesn’t matter the combination. We need to preempt that and shore up accordingly, or sooner or later a win is going to be turned into a draw, or worse.
gonna be interesting to see how he tweaks this, not a fan of the 316 so far. lots of toys in the box to pick from though

It’s certainly going to be a challenge for him, especially if he loses another tool out of the box. We’re playing the bottom two next, so the time for tweaking and saving energy is now, because thereafter will be a real slog (away four times on the bounce) and the fixtures thereafter keep piling up.

yeah, this 1 holding isn't working for me. Id think id sacrifice Rico for Stones personally into the CB/DM role.

If you really want Rico in there a 2-3 build up might be better with Josko/Rico flanking Kova but open down the sides abit still..

Yeah I'm the same - I think with who we have and who gets picked, we don't threaten enough and the personnel aren't the best for defending transitions (OOP) when we lose it. The margins become quite slim

would love to see this setup with wingback over wingers in a sicko kinda way. pity we dont have any.

That'd be interesting!

Tbh I mainly want Pep to be a bit more balanced in his selection/subs - he went cautious against Fulham for the starting XI then absolutely chaotic with the subs. Starting balanced may help get the best out of 3 1 6 - particularly as Savinho tracks back well!
