Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

surely, Khusanov and Victor Reiss would have been better choices against two superfast wingers of Real. Lewis was destroyed against PSG as well, Pep is doing him no favors by playing him against fast and physical players.

Definitely off the boil for much of this season and it shows on the field but the collapse which was expected mind you is endemic in the playing ranks.

What I noticed that was so evident is our complete lack of physicality and pace in the team against a Real Madrid side that is also a shadow of their best in that regard.

Newcastle will run all over us without getting out of second gear.

Leadership is completely lacking on the field , Dias just doesn't command a presence and be able to marshal the troops like others before him

Thought tonight one was of his worst nights since Porto. Bizarre selection, compounded with taking far too long to make subs and the players he did bring on being totally wrong for this game.

He's having a terrible season by his standards and is compounding it by continuing to select players that are finished at this level. It's a shame but ideally, you shouldn't be seeing Bernardo, Kevin or Gundogan again in a meaningful game. They don't have it in them anymore.

In any one off game, one can find excuses with players.

But this has happened all season in way way too many games.

Mental collapse and mistakes in the last bits.

Maybe Pep is unlucky, or maybe the subs and mentality are a problem.

Its his job to find the solution.
Get a bloody sports physichologist in and stop giving them 2 days off every time we don't have a mid week game. And him stop pissing off to Dubai and just get some bloody basic coaching and training in. Absolute disgrace.

One of the hardest things he’s going to have to do is oversee the break up of this team. That will entail breaking strong bonds of loyalty to players that have run through fire for him. Not sure he’s ever done this before but it has to start this season and not next.
Don't think he'll oversee it, likely he'll go with them. It's inevitable, there's no way back now. He's sticking to his principles despite no longer having the personal to play that way. Far to open, far too high and far too old.

Team mentality went down the drain when Rodri got injured. He’s the actual leader in the dressing room

You might be right. I’ve just never understood how he could fully embrace the more expansive football when his whole life has been based on possession and short passing. To see him screaming for the ball to be leathered long for Haaland to chase is a peculiar sight.

Watches KDB stink the place out all game but gives him 83 minutes while his new big money forward gets 5 minutes, Akanji gets hurt and instead of bringing on his fast and strong 40 million new CB, he brings on little Rico whom he has benched for the last few games, and the best of the lot was bringing on Gundogan for the last few minutes, I mean Ilkay didn't commit the major errors but why do you make that sub at all ? what is the point at this stage ? and of course after we concede the equaliser he can't bring any calmness and at least hold on for a draw,

Honestly Tonight just proves yet again that since last season it's no longer the Pep team, it's the Rodri team and he just can't find a solution at all.

A bit unlucky with Akanji getting injured, but we were asking for trouble bringing Lewis on against the pace that Real had.

Strange decision, as was taking Savinho off, and De Bruyne should have been hooked earlier as well.

When we continually fall to pieces in the last 5, 10 minutes, the buck has to stop with the manager. He’s costing us points and losing us games.

I’m slightly numbed to it all by now to be honest, but we’ve got to be asking serious questions now.

To be fair, we couldn’t get by them last season with Rodri in the team.

As I keep repeating myself he won't go at the start of the season and the only way to really judge him is after another transfer window.

Yes in fact we haven't been able to beat a single top team since last season, we couldn't beat Arsenal and Liverpool nor Madrid last season with Rodri, and we sure as hell weren't going to beat them without him, but at least with him last season we didn't lose against any them and every game was a draw, this season we're just embarassing ourselves.

We were the usual Ederson disasterclass away from beating the best team in the world 2-1. His mojo hasn't gone anywhere, his players have.
Madrid are nowhere near the best team in the world this season, and especially not with that makeshift defence tonight, they had two midfielders, a guy no one heard of and a washed up Mendy in that backline and we still could only manage 4 shots on target in 90 minutes and one was a penalty, we had the better defence on paper but that's just it only on paper, because Pep can't get these guys to have a solid defensive game to save his life.

I don't have an issue with the starting 11. I did before the game, but they performed well. However, KDB needed to come off much sooner as did Savinho. Pep needs to finally realise that the players of old can't deliver the level we need them to. We have gone up against a makeshift Real backline and as weak a midfield three as they've had in decades, yet KDB managed to do nothing in the space he was afforded.

Foden shifted wide to accommodate him doesn't make sense. KDB doesn't give us any control because he is too slow to react to a pass anywhere but to his feet.

It's a huge ask to turn this around, but it would be much more beneficial throwing the new players in so they have experience for the next time. It's a playoff not a semi final after all.

I’m just not convinced we can play this type of football and ever dominate again. Instead of sticking to our principles, we’ve chosen to play a way that puts us on the same level as other teams, but they have squads built to play that particular way and we don’t.
