Guardiola = pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass.....ZZZZZzzzzz

The greatest club football team of all time Barcelona under Guardiola
I actually agree with that. 2009-11 they were the best thing I've ever seen in football and up there with the 1991-93 and 1996-98 Chicago Bulls in sport.

But - like the Bulls, who had the man who was as good at his sport as Phil Taylor or Tiger Woods have been at their sport in their prime, in Michael Jordan - Barça had some phenomenal players playing under him. One of the greatest ever football players Messi, one of the best double acts in midfield of all time Iniesta and Xavi, one of the best centre halves in the world Puyol and players like Henry Eto'o Yaya and then Villa Pedro Busquets to boot.

Not taking anything away from Guardiola because Rijkaard and Vilanova didn't win as much as he did with those great teams. I just feel like he's become so engrossed with possession it's got to the point of a real OCD obsession. Where against most run-of-the-mill teams, they hammer, but up against better quality they aren't cutting edge enough to score enough goals. Bayern don't have the quality of Iniesta and Xavi right in their prime and certainly don't have a Messi. So they have to be more direct.

He has to have them more direct in the second leg against Madrid or they're going out, after Heynckes won a treble with them last season.

I bet Guardiola will lose the dressing room soon. Ribery, Kroos, Muller etc can't be happy with this football style. Many Bayern fans are already sick of Guardiola.

Beckenbauer is not happy, regular comments from his on their style being ineffectual nowadays

Not a chance. AC Milan between 88-92 pissed on that team.

There is a rather big irony, yes.

Santiago Street has 1 post in The Cellar, robbieh has 39 posts in The Cellar, you have 1,905. You Cellar boys are so badass. Proper fucking geezers.

Do you ever get embarrassed of throwing your insult-darts around and them not even landing in the same pub?

agreed. the 90's Milan side would have done them.

I think the ajax team early 90s were pretty special also and were also fantastic to watch. But neither they nor Milan had a Messi

They had Van Basten and Gullitt. Both in Messi's class. Maldini and Baresi were 2 of the best defenders ever, in my opinion. They were way better than the very good Barca side mentioned.

Apart from the messi bit you are spot on.

They were very good, very good indeed, but Barça's team the year they won six trophies was phenomenal. I think it would be close but Barça and the way they moved the ball around and were direct with it, I just don't see any team living with it. Not even a that very good Milan team.

Fred's right that Milan side was incredible and imo far better than barca's

Far better??? You can't be far better than that barca team. City are far better than yeovil, the ac Milan team and barca are probably on par, so It'll inevitably come down to peoples personal preferences.

For all Bayern's passing and good possession last night - all too often it ended with a "lump into the box" and Mandzukic being marked by two or three defenders - and no chance of getting on the end of it. Personally I love watching Pep's sides but I can't culturally see this style sitting well with the 'old guard' at Bayern. Comments from the Kaiser and others suggest they may be looking elsewhere if they don't make it through this semi. I guess Joachim Low will be available after the World Cup. Pep I can see back at Barca - which will destroy any hopes we had of getting Messi.
