Milan 88-92
Bayern Munich 74-76
Real Madrid 56-60
All 3 of these teams are in no way inferior to Pep's Barca, it's actually insulting to these teams the way pundits see a possession stat, get dizzy and forget about them.

Pep's Barca team were awarded legendary status by the UK media purely and simply because they tore the GPC's team to shreds at Wembley. So rather than admit that United were second best and tactically very poor they talked Barca up into being the greatest club side ever. The press may have been helped in this process by the Man United press office and a few sycophants on the TV.

People are selling Pep's Barca way short.

United were arguably at their absolute peak with Ronaldo and co when they played them in Rome.

Aside from the opening ten minutes, they were not just beaten, they never received a kick, a footballing masterclass, repeated at Wembley.

Milan never attained those heights.

Guardiola is trying to fit a round peg in a square hole at Bayern. The passing and movement were exceptional against Real Madrid, a joy to watch. The build up was great last night. They didn't commit enough bodies when the ball got out wide. Robben and Ribery were ineffective and they were scared of Madrids pace.

You have to remember that he has to work with Boateng and Dante, neither of which are good enough at the highest level and are less exposed because the opposition only have the ball for 30% of the game, and that 30% is possession under the highest amount of pressure.

Mandzukic or Muller don't suit his system. When Lewandowski comes next season, then, watch out.

Beckenbaur needs to get a grip, they have won the Bundesliga in record time.

Any team that can make Madrid park the bus in Madrid are doing something right.

Yet Chelsea were comfortably the better team that year and were robbed blind in the semi final by the single most corrupt refereeing performance I have ever seen.

Milan beat Barcelona 4-0 in a champions league final. Barcelona had a plethora of stars in that team.

Dejan Savicivic.. what a player!

Obviously this is the all-conquering side of the 1950s but how much of them have you actually watched? Is it enough to make you think an all-conquering side from the 50s beats one from fifty years later? Do you think that football hasn't actually moved forward? I can't comment on that Real Madrid's side because I've only ever seen highlights but whenever I talk to people who were around by then, and who I trust not to let be blinded by nostalgia, those people always tell me that players from the 50s, 60s and 70s couldn't live with the fitness levels against modern players. That's before you get into evolution of coaching, tactics etc.

In recent years i've watched the full 90minutes of City v Leicester in the 1969 FA Cup final, the England v Brazil and Italy v Brazil games from the 1970 World Cup finals and it has to be said that football is on another planet to what it was years ago. The pace the game is played at, the level of skill involved, technical ability involved, the physical conditioning of the players is all far far advanced from those days. Not just that but tactically too. If you ever get chance to see the Italy v Brazil WC70 final you'll see the Italian team just sit back and put Gérson under a laughbale amount of non-pressure. He just walked around and passed the ball where he wanted, at times he could stand still for three seconds and think about what he wanted to do. The Italian defensive tactics were a joke. Fernandinho will not get anywhere near that kind of time on the ball in this WC in the same position for Brazil.

Looking at that City FA Cup final and comparing it to what we watch now every week, it makes the 1969 team look like something from the Championship. Today's team's movement, crispness off passing, movement of the ball around the pitch, speed of passing and movment, power and strength, quality of skill involved, workrate defensively, tactics defensively are far more advanced.

Football has moved forward yes, but that doesn't necessarily make the Barca team under Pep better than teams in the past, it just gives them an advantage in terms or training, diet etc etc. I've watched the full matches of the finals though (as well as a lot of other matches) and Di Stefano and Puskas would rip any modern day defence to pieces, those guys were ridiculous.
Let's turn it round, could Pep's Barca team go back to the 50s and win against the level of Physicality and Brutality that was commonplace then?

I see what you're saying definitely but in that case I don't think we can ever truly compare teams from different eras and must simply accept those were great and dominant teams in their own eras. Personally though, I think it's ok to accept that things naturally progress. My latest mobile phone shits all over the phone I got ten years ago. It's progress.
