both Vinny and Nasty are too nice at present.

You only have to look at the great Italian defenders down the years to appreciate that with experience, comes every trick in the book.

I don't like the sound of the fee one bit, £15m would be much more realistic.

However, in Europe, we need a little more steel. Pepe is another player going in to a World Cup year who would be extremely motivated.

He ticks all the Lescott boxes but with the ability to play with the ball at his feet.

Nasty, yes. Vinnie too nice? No chance tolmie

I don't think Pepe would be a bad signing at all, though I think £15 mill is still probably a touch too much. Anywhere around £20 million is ridiculous

Vinny isn't cynical in what he does, it's still all about making the perfect tackle with our fantastic skipper.

It catches him out sometimes, as we have seen with his red cards, but in Europe, he has been found lacking.

Can't wait to see him at his peak in a couple of years, when some of the finesse is replaced by street smarts.

Vinnie may not be cynical but some of his challenges are definitely not nice.

I don't really want Vinnie to be cynical but a bit wilier would be good.

I have no problem with bringing Pepe to add a bit of devilment to the squad. He is an animal but he is also a bloody good football player.

The guy's a prick but if you look at most of the top club's in Europe, they all have horrible players.

Over half of United's strongest XI are awful, there's only De Gea, Carrick and Wellbeck who seem allright.

Chelsea have Terry, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cole and Hazard, Mata and Torres aren't afraid to leave their boot in on occasion.

Bayern are nearly as bad as United, Madrid and to some extent Barca are the same. Although with Barca they tend to be little whinging bastards rather than dirty thugs.

In comparison, we've got a pretty 'nice' squad, the kind of players that'll pick you up after a challenge and kick the ball back to you. Maybe we need a Pepe more than I'd like to admit.

Yet Chelsea fans were bemoaning how we out muscled them last season and the same when we met ManU away. As for being 'nice' are you saying you never noticed how often Barry manages to 'foul' an opponent and get away with it the beautiful snide bastard he is. This we are 'too nice' and everyone else is a bunch of thugs implies we were constantly bullied out of games when the opposite is true. I never understand why we constantly rationalise potential transfers like Pepe with made up bollocks that includes defining Juan Mata as some sort of 'hard man'.

I can see the need for experienced CB cover having lost Kolo and probably Lescott but buying Pepe who lost his place to a 19 y/o at RM to replace our 19 y/o is disappointing to say the least and at some of the prices being quoted is fucking ridiculous. I know Ferran and Txiki are determined to make sure Pellers will be a success but lets not take the total piss and show some faith in at least one of young players.

Pepe is fouled more than he fouls....Apart from the few notorious off the ball incidents, him being a dirty player is a myth

Sergio Ramos on the other hand

Pepe is a good player and in purely football terms would improve the squad but that isn't the point.

30 years old
£20 million pounds
Known volatile temperament
We wouldn't be paying him less than 80k a week

Those are the points
