I like the idea of him partnering Kompany - solid,no nonsense and great experience.

20M seems excessive though,so,if there's any truth in this rumour,i imagine it will be closer to half that.

20M is ok for the player of Pepe's experience. If we can get it down to 15m then we have done well and 10m we have got ourselves a bargain.

Is Pepe an upgrade on Maicon cause looks like maicon would be sold.
Both have CL exp

Pellegrini ready to offload £100k-a-week City flop Maicon as busy summer continues

Pepe is finished, do not want. A couple of years ago he was brilliant, because of his physical ability, but that has quickly declined and what's left is a shadow of the player. He's not better than Nastasic or Kompany, and we do not need a player of this market value to be third choice. The only new CB we should be looking to bring in is a young, promising player that won't mind being on the bench or fighting for his place for a few years, such as Ginter from Freiburg.

Pepe would bring some qualities but I personally think that we should be looking elsewhere especially considering the rumoured price involved.

I wouldn't mind us considering David Luiz. Decent defender and great deadball specialist (something which we have been lacking as Kolarov does not produce enough in my view).

The independent is running the story that it will be 15m. If we sell Lescott for 5/6m? we have purchased a very experienced and very good defender for 10m/9m.

Would be very happy with that.

Pellegrini will know exactly what he is getting from his time of managing him, IIRC was Pepe bandied around as one of the best CB's in the world when Pellegrini was there a few years ago?
He would have also seen him every time he played whilst he was manager at Malaga.

Pepe is a loose cannon, but also a very gifted centre back, on his day as good as it gets. I think the PL would suit him very well, and under Pellegrini he might be able to be more focused and professional on the pitch.
I'd say if we could land him for under 12-15mil it would be okay business, below that and it would be great.

It seems that whenever Kompany is unavailable we are easily bullied at the back. We need a bit of a bruiser in the squad. And we need to guard against the possibility of 2nd season syndrome for Nastasic.

I'd definitely go for Pepe when the price is EUR 20mill or less.
As for him being a loose canon, I'm sure Mourinho pushing his players to whatever it took to win a game played a big part in the players' behaviour. Pellegrini will get the man playing football again and that's when Pepe is probably one of the best defenders around. He would be perfect competition for Kompany and Nastasic. I for one would love to see Kompany being pushed a bit more. And even if Pepe would come, I'd keep Lescott unless the player himself wants to go away.

Well hopefully things will start speeding up on the transfer front. The players back in Monday and off to South Africa on the 14th is it? Would be a good way to bond the new players with current squad as they'll all be rooming together etc.
