Again Pepe is in basic one of the best defenders around. Defensively and -more importantly- his build up play is one of the best ever seen. Even Kompany can learn from pape's reading of the game and ballposession.

Unfortunately lots of people just remember his antics. And yes he had a few. Especially vs the fall-over brigade from Barcelona. I tend to think it was mainly Mourinho that got to him and made him the player that seems to loose his head frequently.

Under Pellegrini at Real Pepe was magnificent. As to last season, despite missing a few games through injury, he was rarely carded either yellow and I believe he didn't even got his marching orders. And we are talking La Liga.

It's just that for an 30 year old the rumoured EPS20-25 seems a lot. But I wouldn't mind him in the squad. And we don't meed to have a full squad with the perfect son-in-laws now do we?

This is the dilemma that the modern day Blues are now in. We have to make progress in the Champions League and it needs experienced campaigners to achieve that, but it will only hamper the progress of our younger players as these will not be risked except as late substitutes against weaker, beaten opponents. There is a huge gap between EDS and Premier League football, let alone the Champions League. Perhaps a 12-month loan spell for the better kids to smaller European clubs who have qualified for the Europa League would be a good idea. They would get the necessary experience this way, and they would come back to us wiser and tougher.

Nastastic is better so why limit the progression of a future world star for a man who is at least on the scenic lookout on the way down from the top of the mountain?

A big no from me. Even if we really want him then anything more than £8m is a complete waste.

Nastasic cannot won't play 60 games this season

defenders get a lot of injuries over the season, Kompany missed big chunks of last season. There will almost definitely be a time where Kompany and Nasty are both unavailable at the same time. Then we are going to have a centre half pairing of Lescott and Garcia. I rate Lescott and i also think javi could do a half decent job as emergency cover but i would not be comfortable with that partnership in a champions league game or a game against the top 6/7 in the league. Somebody, Pepe or another, is definitely needed.

It would be more like Lescott and Richards.

Sometimes you just need this war horse, warrior type of player in your ranks!
