While discussing Pepe, City may make a polite enquiry about Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao, who could be sold by the Spaniards after barely playing for them in pre-season.

With Juventus still interested in Aleks Kolarov, and said to be preparing a £7million bid, it could represent smart business for the Blues if they could nick Portugal ace Coentrao and sell Kolarov – although they value the Serb at twice Juve’s proposed price.

Demichelis has asked Atletico to let him go according to Cadena SER. Pellegrini has offered a 2-year deal.

Interesting, it looks like maybe we are getting Demichelis then.
I said in the Demichelis thread that I would prefer Pepe for the CL, but he would demand a first team pace resulting in Nastasic's game time likely to be diminished compared to last season.
Demichelis does look more of a back up center half, he has worked under Pellegrini and will understand his game plan/ tactics inside out no doubt.

and he's only a year older than Tony Book when he was signed!

Agreed but a different era - the game is an awful lot faster now.

They've said Di Maria is staying. Coentrao is the only one officially on the market as he wants weekly starts.

I've been saying for weeks that we need 2 CB's, a new LB and a new LW to compliment Navas. Surrly if we jesttison Sinclair, Garcia, Kolorov, Lescott, Barry, Razak and Boyata we could afford to bring in Coentrao, Pepe and Willian/Di Maria and still balance the books.

If our new approach has shown us anything, in the fight against ffp, wages are an even more important factor than a realistic fee.

Boyata actually looked good against Bayern. I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of him.

Lescott will not play 4th choice here when he will get regular football at many other Prem clubs.

Kolo is 32! He wanted more first team football and was on a big wage, was probably still bitter about the fine for the drug ban as well.

I spoke to a Dipper yesterday and told him that they were very lucky because they signed Kolo on a free. He was saying that he's performed brilliantly in their pre-season, but most Dipper fans were skeptical because they thought they'd signed a dud on the decline.

I told him that Toure may be past his peak, but he's still Champions League class in my book. He did fuck all wrong from what I could see and it makes no sense letting one 30 year old go for free, only to buy another one for between £20-£30m.

This is no sleight on Pepe, but I just don't understand the logic. Having said that, as it stands Pepe signing would be a blessed relief.

You can understand why Real don't want to sell him. Not only is he still an excellent defender but Real are very concerned about Varane's knee injury that isn't healing. It'd be a bit like us selling Kolo then a club asking us to sell Lescott after Nastasic got injured. I think, sadly, our chances of signing Pepe are small which is probably why we seem to have a deal for Demichelis in the pipeline.

Madrid aren't going to sell Carvalho, Albiol and Pepe and not sign one centre half going the other way leaving just Verane and the man who was once the world's best right back, Ramos, as their only centre halves. Nacho is already 23 and only made 11 appearances for Madrid in two seasons.

I think if Madrid keep Pepe they still need to sign two centre halves, one at a push if Nacho is to feature more this year. Never mind selling Pepe.


That would be like us selling Kolo and Rekik and then selling Lescott leaving us with just Nasty Kompany and Boyata.

ah an adult on the transfer forum, thank you LC. Just 1 thing that keeps my attention to this being a goer is that Pepe is still 1:8 to join us and has been for over 5 weeks now - I know that bookies are not generous but this suggests some sound knowledge and they are not keen for anyone to bet on this move?
