At £20m Gundogan doesn't seem a bad buy tbh. Had we paid twice that or more I'd agree with you.

Don’t think you can call mendy a worse signing. If he didn’t have two serious injuries he would be class. You saw his first season how good he was, no one could/can predict injuries that’s not entirely fair to him imo

Really thought our days of wasting money on duds were behind us.

He had a good first few games, not a season.
Steve McManaman looked brilliant for his first couple of games.

He would have built on those first games had his knee not gave out. Those two serious Injuries would have hurt anyone no matter the quality. If he didn’t have injuries and was just awful I would agree he was a bad buy but again imo can’t say he was bad based on horrible luck.

I take your point and undoubtedly he was unlucky to get injured but plenty of top players have serious injuries and when they come back their form hasn’t fallen off a cliff. It’s guesswork to say how good he would’ve been had he stayed fit. He made a good start and that’s that.

And paying customers like their players to be focused, serious minded professional athletes. Mendy’s off field antics and zany personality do him no favours either. You can get away with that nonsense when you deliver what you’re paid to deliver. For whatever reason he hasn’t and so questions arise as to whether he’s been unlucky to be so badly afflicted by injuries or whether some of the responsibility for this lies on his shoulders.

Agreed, but Mendy did have a questionable injury record before he signed for us.
