Pep's Buys - Worst and Best?

Thats what every top club does. If season is poor, response is usually to bin off the biggest underperformers and replace with better. That kind of talk is just bitter talk.

You see Barca responding to CL exit with FDJ and Griezmann signings, Real spending €300m to overhaul their squad in response to poor season

Real Madrid and Barca are always likely to replace players season after season because that is how they operate , but it ia also what their fans expect them to do.

And I don't believe that all their purchases are succesful .

Nolito started out not bad; remember his debut at Stoke? He looked bloody good that day. It all started to go a bit Pete for him when he got red carded for that brainless headbutt against Bournemouth. 4-0 up, going into the last 10 minutes (IIRC) and he goes and sticks the nut on a Bournemouth player. Fucking idiotic. And I'm pretty sure I remember him doing another one later in the season and somehow not getting another red card. Lunacy. That initial one probably did for him with Pep.
I do remember his debut. Classic peak too soon.

It would be good to see a pathway for young academy players to make there way into the first team.

It is natural we continually invest in players but that does have a consequence as we have seen with Sancho as I doubt he could see a pathway with the prolonged pursuit of the likes of Sanchez.

For all our spending the squad still looks some what lopsided, with a multitude of players suited to the right midfield and right back, right cebtre half yet we seem to be making do on the left and at left centre half. Also arguably our left winger (Sterling) is more effective on the right also.

I hope we do not go out and frivolously spend again as even though we have spent significantly this summer there is little evidence of improvement.

Its been, relatively, a tough premiership campaign so far but we need evolution more than revolution.
Yep, you only have to look at the arsekissing Chelsea are receiving, the freedom and lack pressure is helping their players thrive. Rather than being stifled with high expectations and no credit given because of the focus on money.

We could do with a break from that kind of pressure for a while in my opinion and if the criticism from some is that we've made too many bad buys under Pep(laughable looking at the past two seasons), how can't they see that the last thing we want to do is rush into buying too many players at once?

We need to continue to try and be more measured in our spending(the right players for the right price). I would love United(love it) to overtake us for "most spent in the last 5-10years" the next few years(they could well do that looking at the state of their squad), just to laugh at the press trying to backpeddle and put a positive spin on it.

It is also finding value in the market. Is it necessary to spend such fees on Cancelo who is a second choice right back? If the money is to be spent surely look at spending that money on a player who can cover a multitude of positions, rather than one rotating with the other 50 million fullback.

Pep has said a few things about not being able to afford players but, as the other week, when you have two 50 million plus fullbacks on the bench sympathy is going to be scarce about your centre back issue.

The academy players still seem not to be trusted even though Foden has been around the team for a number of years and has still hardly racked up a significant amount of playing time or starts. Again its to our detriment as when we do need them there not up to speed and it reinforces a perception remains about the club.

I have read excuse after excuse for years for not giving the kids a chance but there wearing a bit thin now. Its criminal to see the likes of Mount, Sancho, Tomori etc develop with Foden still stuck getting 10 minute run outs and Carabao cup matches.

Because he was part of an attack that absolutely ripped us apart, knocked us out of the CL and won the French league ahead of PSG and got about 15 assists.

He also looked unstoppable at the start of last season for us when he got about 5 assists in 3 games.

He was the most exciting full back in the world when we bought him. But unfortunately injuries look to have really taken their toll.
Most exciting full back in the world? give me a break will you

Part of the attack, maybe, but a fullback also needs to defend and he quite obviously cant

Who was better at the time?
I'd say the bloke who kept him out of the French side at the time, not getting into an argument here because we obviously have different opinions of him but at the moment hes not even the best left back at the club let alone one of the best in the premier league

Unfortunately it looks like mendy is done at top level due to injuries unless he can turn it around over the rest of the season. But I don’t agree with the amount of shit he gets on here (like saying he wasn’t decent before we bought him). Also don’t agree with the constant criticism of gundog. I don’t like him as an 8 but he offers so much - he was great filling in the end of last season and is always good to bring on as an 8 to see the game out. Mahrez is a good player but doesn’t fit our system and slows things down too much a lot of the time.

One of the clumsiest defenders I've had the misfortune to watch.it is fine saying he's great going forward but the useless twat is a left back.the clue is in the name.Fucking Dunney monster installed more confidence in me than Mendy and Stones combined
