Pep's Buys - Worst and Best?

Mendy has had awful injuries and played handful off games so how people can judge him is beyond me but that's some of our fans nowadays but Mahrez at the moment

Tough call

Nolito was a really bad buy but was “only” 14m

Mendy and Mahrez were terrible buys but cost way more money. Complete waste of money the pair of them.
Nolito started out not bad; remember his debut at Stoke? He looked bloody good that day. It all started to go a bit Pete for him when he got red carded for that brainless headbutt against Bournemouth. 4-0 up, going into the last 10 minutes (IIRC) and he goes and sticks the nut on a Bournemouth player. Fucking idiotic. And I'm pretty sure I remember him doing another one later in the season and somehow not getting another red card. Lunacy. That initial one probably did for him with Pep.

You shouldn't engage them it is pointless, he has been shit his entire time here and never shown an ounce of improvement.

In all honesty, I am logging off and not bothering reading any more shite from a fan base that frankly should know better.

A broad comment of "that was fucking shite" is all anybody needs to know, you either were not here when it actually was shite or have become a spoiled **** that can't take a draw or defeat in your stride like a man.

The overreaction to this season has been pathetic.
Couldn't agree more, it's also hard to defend against the assertions that "City's attitude is just to go out and buy the league if they struggle at all" with some of the reactions in recent weeks.

Some are literally saying the only answer to the problems we've had this season, is that we should give up on and sell Rodri(already... that's just embarrassing) , Mendy, Jesus, Stones, Mahrez, Gundogan and bring in some ready made expensive replacements. That's of course ontop of replacements for Kompany and any possible outgoing players in the summer such as Sané, Otamendi, Silva. Yeah because that will go down well with the rest of football wont it?

It's simply not our year to use the red scouse expression. I've given up on the title for now, at present I just want the team to rescue it's form and get the football back on track, if we do that we can atleast pick up some cups this season and if Liverpool do start to falter, we will be in a position for that to matter. There's no denying the injuries but of the players fit a lot of the problems are mental ones, drive, hunger, confidence are not things I'm seeing in some of the players right now.

Thats what every top club does. If season is poor, response is usually to bin off the biggest underperformers and replace with better. That kind of talk is just bitter talk.

You see Barca responding to CL exit with FDJ and Griezmann signings, Real spending €300m to overhaul their squad in response to poor season

FDJ and Griezmann is not an overhaul and nothing like my example. Real Madrid have needed an overhaul for a few years now. Sorry but I disagree, our last overhaul is too recent, many of those players too young, to begin to defend our position on buying success. More than that though the point is we are not even in December yet, with so many more games to play and chances for players to turn it around.

We are already going to have to spend on a replacement for Kompany and possibly Otamendi, I hope we don't buy a replacement for Silva personally(for Fodens sake) but I suspect we will and I do actually think Gundogan should be moved on to make way for someone more suited to the PL.

None of that matters. If you start pleasing others then I don't know what to say. First and foremost City being successful is the most important thing, not pleasing others. Every top club is buying success. Barca has by far the highest wage bill in the world. Bayern has the by far highest wages in Germany. PSG in France, Juventus in Italy.

Keeping underperforming players to please others is just absolutely madness.

City have the financial resources, highest revenues in UK during this financial year and all that. Use that to maximum advantage ruthlessly.

Always keep the spending as high possible on average. Sport is all about money at the end of the day.

Where do we get that Mendy was brilliant when we bought him from? He was part of a defence that conceded 5 goals at the Etihad
Because he was part of an attack that absolutely ripped us apart, knocked us out of the CL and won the French league ahead of PSG and got about 15 assists.

He also looked unstoppable at the start of last season for us when he got about 5 assists in 3 games.

He was the most exciting full back in the world when we bought him. But unfortunately injuries look to have really taken their toll.

It would be good to see a pathway for young academy players to make there way into the first team.

It is natural we continually invest in players but that does have a consequence as we have seen with Sancho as I doubt he could see a pathway with the prolonged pursuit of the likes of Sanchez.

For all our spending the squad still looks some what lopsided, with a multitude of players suited to the right midfield and right back, right cebtre half yet we seem to be making do on the left and at left centre half. Also arguably our left winger (Sterling) is more effective on the right also.

I hope we do not go out and frivolously spend again as even though we have spent significantly this summer there is little evidence of improvement.

Its been, relatively, a tough premiership campaign so far but we need evolution more than revolution and fill a few of the gaps with players from the academy.
