Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

i dont understand this insistence that we have to play open attractive football , Allegri or Simeone would bring trophies , they are proven winners , Rodgers teams (outside one team Scotland) have never run the course and never will.
The whole clubs plays the same way from U8 to first team. The club simply has to play attractive football or otherwise the work that has been put in place would be pointless.

City has been built like Barca in a nutshell.

Simeone or Allegri will never coach City.

City should consider carefully what to do after/when Pep leaves. I believe the main idea of the owners was Pep to be to City what Cruyff was to Barca. Not only to win some trophies while playing proactive attacking football but to instill his philosophy as a basic dna of the whole club. So hiring of coaches like Simeone or Allegri would be a huge contradiction of the whole project. On the other hand Soriano and co are very well aware that there is no other Pep to find out there..there are a lot of coaches who have similar views on football but what Guardiola offers as a whole package as manager is rare and unique. So the best solution imo is to keep him at the club as much as possible..

According to SportBILD from Germany, Nagelsmann is City's top target to replace Guardiola should he not extend his contract.

Also adds that City is the club in pole position for Nagelsmann and that could have to pay €10m in compensation to Leipzig.

I genuinely think the club wanted to mould Arteta into the role after Pep. Now he's gone I reckon the club will look abroad for a successor

Nothing is written in stone , and players and clubs adapt , a manager arriving at a football club signing a four year deal like Pep has does not dictate our playing style for years to come , Allegri or Simeone would no doubt change some aspects of our play , but wouldnt be stupid enough to make wholesale changes , they are experienced managers and winners who would take the best of Pep's tactics and supplement that with their own style of play
One thing is certain Brenda will never coach City , anybody who thinks he is the answer is in fantasy land.

Rodgers is a damn sight more likely than Simeone or Allegri. Pep may not dictate how we play, Txiki, Soriano, and Khaldoon, certainly do. Our next manager , whenever that is, will come from the same footballing school of thought.
As it is doubt it will be Rodgers either.

Pep's a tough act to follow , i just dont see any current manager who will pick up the reigns and seamlessly play Pep's style of football , the only answer is Pep signing for another decade and hoping with the continued climate change Manchester could be getting as much sun as Barcelona, and we get a sun tan and everyone's happy.

I sincerely hope Pep stays, but if he does go and we get this guy then there needs to be something in his contract about not wearing daft looking clobber

it is highly unlikely he will sign an extension. This would normally mean there is some option to extend it. Newspapers call it an extension as they don't know what they are talking about.

This rumour keeps popping up now, and we haven’t seen anything like this at all for some years (not since we were repeatedly linked to Pep during the Mancio & Pelle years). I wouldn’t be surprised if Pep genuinely hasn’t made his mind up yet so it would make sense for City to start covering their bases.

For what it’s worth I think Nagelsmann would be great for us & could freshen up this side.

Pep looks tired and frustrated when interviewed. Maybe even a little sad.

City are playing well below what we've come to expect from these players, and enjoy over the past couple of years.

But which is "chicken" and which "egg,", is hard to tell ?
He lost his mum, there are no crowds so he probably cant motivate himself like before , understandable consider how much he loves family and football

If he’s lost motivation, he’ll probably decide to take a break and move on.
Doubt it he's lost it, like most managers and players they aren't enjoying football twice a week in empty stadiums.Probably feels like constant training sesions. They will all be looking forward to next season and full stadiums.Think it's more likely he'll stay to play agin in front of fans ,and not just City but all clubs will go into next season with renewed vigour.

I very, very much want Pep to extend his contract with our side. He's the best manager in world football IMO.
===
And yet, there's a pattern - Pep is signed to a multi-year contract with a top side and achieves success. The club wants Pep to sign an extension. Pep demurs - without actually rejecting the possibility of staying on.

Finally Pep's contract nears an end - at which point he announces that he's not taking the extension.

Pep then spends a quiet off year before accepting an offer at a top club.
===
Which is to say - there's a pattern in Pep's behavior - should the pattern continue - he won't be our manager next season... which is what I think will happen... however much I wish that this were not so.

Is once a pattern?

Is once a pattern?
Barca (first team) and Bayern - are twice in a row by my count. Small sample size... and perhaps dead wrong, I hope.

At the same time - do you think he'd lost the confidence of Barca players or Bayern players - or that he lost the confidence of Barca or Bayern management?

I simply think that it's a mixture of burnout and a desire to pursue new challenges.
