Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I just read in the news that a Spanish director of football has decided to leave the club at the end of this season. And I think it was also announced that a Portuguese person will replace him. So that it appears that something could indeed be happening in the background.

Nothing gets past Columbo over here.

I don't know where this 'one year' has really come from. Probably because it rounds it off to a 10, and that seems easy for people to grasp, for some reason.

I'd be happy with it myself, but I personally expect it to be two years he extends for. Can even hold out hope for three.

It could be longer, I think the one year is purely to round up to 10 but Pep isn't the sort of person to be bothered about rounding things up. He will stay as long as he wants and wouldn't be bothered about leaving after 9.

The summer is tricky for any transition though and I think the one year will be to do us a favour in terms of a smooth handover. If the CWC wasn't this summer I think he would go.

However, the noise doesn't really go away and next season will have this circus around it being his last so it might be that there's a longer contract in place with the ability to go sooner just for the optics. The club don't usually care about that, but we have seen with Klopp it becomes an unnecessary side show.

As said 1 year only delays the same conversations next year, and if he signs one year then it is a good sign that after that year he is gone. It makes a rebuild that bit harder and players a touch unsure signing if they don't know who will be in the dugout.
