Pep's contract situation

Wouldn't make any sense to let players go considering they couldn't be given any gametime guarantees and the fact that we made even more signings for Pep. It would be a huge loss for our project and I don't think it'll come to that. I'm sure Pep would have said he's leaving towards end of season if that was the case.

I don't think Pep makes guarantees for anyone.

Agree bet the people at our club don’t know if he is going to sign or not. Last time he signed his new contract it was around 20th November and that’s when this World Cup will start that’s when pep said he will sit down and look at it..

I'd happily have him manage City forever, but I think there's a few signs it might be nearing the time for him to move on.

This summer we had 3 players who could have stayed choosing to move on, Bernardo is likely to push for a move away again, I don't think Stones+Laporte+Dias+Aké will work as a 4 for much longer, 1 or 2 of them will feel they can start every week, KDB, Walker, Mahrez, Gundogan are all the wrong side of 30.

I said when Pep arrived I hoped he would do 8 years, that's the amount of time Cruyff was manager at Barcelona and laid the foundations for everything that came after.

That would take him to July 2024, and I think that is shaping up to be a natural ending point.

Would like him to sign a new contract and if he feels it’s time to go go half way through it so there is no speculation just after season 23/24 only thing I’d want though is let the club know his intentions, so we can plan look for a new manager..

I am sure the club know exactly what his intentions are.

IF he were to leave at the end of the season we don't want the situation the rags had with Fergusson when he "retired" the first time, the drop off after that announcement was huge.

You could also look at him letting key players move on, while throwing a Haaland shaped grenade into the middle of his control based team, is a sign that he's trying to refresh things for himself.

If he moves on, then his next job would likely be another big team, where he gets to impose his philosophy, but he's done that three times now, and may be looking for a different kind of challenge. Fresh faces and new systems might be more appealing than starting afresh somewhere where he's expected to be the same "Pep".

He has a good enough relationship with the club to ensure the end of his tenure is handled as smoothly as possible. I still think it will cause us issues. We're still not like Barcelona in terms of the power to attract players. Pep is still a major reason people decide to play for us. There will be young players out there who have only known City as a successful team, but will that be enough? Will we be able to retain our pull without paying more money? There isn't an obvious replacement for Pep. There are good managers out there, but we have to make the right decision. I think the worse thing the club could do is bring in someone at a time when the squad needs substantial improvement. We need Pep to see through the replacements to Walker, Gundogan, Mahrez over the next couple of years but timing-wise it will be De Bruyne that could leave a huge hole and issue in our squad.

Ideally a new manager comes in and takes over a team with players who have delivered and his change in approach doesn't impact the fact there's a solid base of a squad with a lot of success. If we can recruit to replace the three I've just mentioned then I'm sure a new manager would be able to continue our success. Whether they can continue the dominance we've seen under Pep is yet to be known. It would be a huge coup if we could secure our first CL success with Pep as well, that gives any new manager complete freedom on that front even if he is compared week in week out to one of the greatest.
