Pep's tactics

tactics is one thing, but the most important is work rate. We were carrying some players last season. Everyone gives everything this season. Long may it continue

There can be few players in the would turm down the oportunity to play for him and in this side. It must be genuinely exciting to be allowed to play in such a way.

have anyone else noticed how EVERY city players was CONSTANTLY moving throughout WHOLE match. none of players were static at any point, no matter where the ball is.

Yes and with 3 minutes to go and 4-0 up there was 3 players sprinting and closing down BMG in their half to win the ball back. Sublime

We truly aren't worthy, El Senor is a greater Wizard than Gandalf, an even Superior magician to Houdini.

I absolutely love the way, when we play it from the back, the defenders pull wide to open up the pitch so we can get the ball to the match winners. And the wingers hug the touch line, creating space in the midfield. He must be delighted to have inherited De Bruyne and Silva to pick the ball up in these areas and open defences. And It's immediately obvious how Important Gundagon will be in keeping possession and finding these players quickly.

There are too many other innovations to even mention, but I will throw in the way Fernandinho joins the back four when the opposition are looking to play long, and even sweeps up behind them. It's a joy to watch from a good seat in the stadium.

He's the best manager I have ever seen.

Makes you wonder what the hell Pellegrini was doing with us, and how he lacked such authority and oversight.

The shape of the team is like nothing I've seen.

It creates great footy but also it's just so intriguing to 'study'. I've never before found myself watching what our defenders are doing when we have the ball in the opponents third...

The way the defenders would constantly move 10 yards forward into the midfield to open up the passing lanes was so good to see. Allowed us to bypass their first line with ease time and time again and start another attack.

Pellegrini's first season was impressive after a poor start (mostly away from home). 4 strikers and Yaya giving us some 150+ goals..

When you saw that last night it drove home why Mangala had to leave; he's not a bad defender just incapable of doing that so comfortably. The pundits were in a tizzy about the fullbacks paying in midfield, but last night took it to a whole new level. You have to start imagining the unimaginable with Pep, so how long until Bravo is playing ahead of a defender?

Dont know how Pep has done it, with the same players too! Going to the games is so much more pleaserable at the moment. Last year watching City was always tense, always waiting for the opposition to score the inevitable goal.

This year is so much different, we're finishing teams off, plahying to the end, and the pressure is actually on the visiting team. My god!

Tactically I dont think Pep brings as much as he does with his positivity and enthusiasm. Dont get me wrong, he is prepared to try the unusual and make things work differently and his tactical approach is going to be a template for the prem. But If Pellers was to manage this team using Peps tactical methods he would still get us nowhere

This is an education.

In the last few years we've all seen Barcelona and Bayern Munich completely dominate us and as much as its a geeky thing, I've watched the games back countless times and never fully understood how they're doing it because they haven't been that much better than us man for man on paper but they've always got options to pass to and have always seemingly been in the right place at the right time to press if they lose possession.

Even now after 4 home games it's just obvious, the movement and awareness of teammates off the ball is just more intelligent than we've ever seen before. The players aren't just moving to receive the ball themselves, they're also moving to create space for others and to drag defenders out of position for other players to exploit. There's a purpose to every single movement off the ball, whether it's the full backs moving inside which creates space for the pass into the winger who is then 1v1 against the full back or Fernandinho dropping back to centre back to allow Stones or Otamendi to step forward in to midfield to create the free man. FFS even Bravo is creating an option for defenders to play back through.

Even defensively we're pressing players from different angles to cut off their passing options, gone are the days of just getting back behind the ball and waiting for their attack to break down. Again it's every player working in tandem to cut off every way out and forcing players into mistakes or a pass they didn't necessarily want to play.

We are truly blessed, the way we're playing is an education to us all and it'll change English football for the good.

Fascinating tactically last night, Kolarov and Stones coming into midfield. KDB has a total free role in the middle and Sterling was swapped sides last night probably to play against the weaker full back. The only person who seemingly has an actual tactical position is Otamendi and Bravo... Even Silva not playing I think was a tactical decision just to keep them guessing.

Under Pellegrini we setup pretty similar but the difference is the free movement and intelligence on the ball. Before we were rigid and relied on brute force or magic to create but now it just happens because of the total freedom to move and create the space to make things happen. You can't defend or man mark against us, it is impossible. How can you mark KDB or track Gundogan when suddenly Stones is stood in midfield too, what do you do? Do you press him and allow Sterling in behind or Gundogan or KDB? It is an absolute nightmare to defend against. The only option is to put 11 men behind the ball and forget worrying about the movement and mark the space instead but then your 30% possession will turn into 0%...!

We are setup now to make it impossible to plan and figure us out and that is down to the manager. Individual brilliance barely comes into it because I can't name a single player who is outstanding because they all equally have been. I even thought Sergio had a quiet game but he still scored 3 goals!

As for Pep I don't know how he sleeps at night, he must sit down for 2 minutes a game, he never stopped living the match, bollocking Stones, gesturing at the team, telling them where to stand, who to mark, keeping them on their toes. The man is an absolute fruit cake, a personality and a genius, I think we have got with him far more than we could ever have hoped for here.

This 'new' style of play under Pep has helped the weaker players big time. Although we are very flexible in attack, players that previously weren't that good under pressure can now make passes without looking up as they know 100% where a team mate will be, there were a few times last night Gundogan held the ball fantastically and without even checking he would spread the ball out wide to Navas/Sterling as he knew where they were, all the players always make themselves available, it's very very good and i'm finding myself counting the days down until the next game again which I haven't done for quite a while now!

I already think that no matter whatever else Pep does in his career, he has one thing from his time at City that he can use to demonstrate his genius: Kolarov.

A player who, quite rightly, was berated by a lot of fans (myself included) and who we ALL surely thought would have been gone before the first ball was kicked. A player who brought groans when his name was included in the teamsheets at the beginning of the season, yet who now looks like one of the first on the teamsheet at either LB or CB (say whatttt?!).

He had a cameo in midfield last night and actually left me excited at how often it allowed him to find space for a shot on goal, we know how deadly his left foot is.

Pep has turned Kolarov from zero to hero literally in the space of 6 weeks. Incredible man management.
