wipe your tears of disapointment away with your clive tydlsey teatowelI know he’s quite popular but I find him quite grating with his over the top hyperbole which seems like he’s written it down in advance. I watch streams, usually American ones, so shouldn’t be an issue to me
Yeh, I know what you mean, but he at least seems enthusiastic about us. Be interesting to see if that changes or not, now that he’s working for the red clickbait merchants’ broadcaster of choice. I guess we’ll find out if City come from two down at Anfield to level, and the City goals get the funeral treatment favoured by his predecessor……I know he’s quite popular but I find him quite grating with his over the top hyperbole which seems like he’s written it down in advance. His Aguero comment was Staggering just Staggering.Peter Drury is a brilliant commentator, and has the uncanny ability to really nail the big moments.
He was on the World Feed for the Aguero goal and nailed a similarly spine-tingling call for that one. His commentary for the 2010 World Cup opening goal is instantly iconic.
The problem with hearing Drury every week, as the quoted tweet suggests, is that he is *too* over-the-top for even the most mundane of games. He will elevate a scruffy tap-in in the 87th minute to Morgan Gibbs White in Nottingham Forest 1-0 Sheffield United to too a similar level of the Tshabalala goal.
And the problem with that is - if EVERY goal is special, then none of them are
Said this a few times over the years.I won't miss him but his commentary style changed dramatically after he joined Sky, for evidence listen to his comms on the Huddersfield and Bradford matches. Basically he sold his soul to the Sky mantra of "red-shirts good, anyone else bad for subscription levels".
I remember him as a good commentator with a great voiceHugh Johns I always felt was a great commentator with a great voice.
Coleman and Davies are the best I've ever heard.but I constantly get them confused.+1 for Barry Davies. A great commentator whereas Motson became a caricature of himself over the years. All the boring, crappy stats he used to roll out were irrelevant as far as I was concerned.
I was also a great fan of David Coleman's football commentaries back in the day. His "One-Nil" deliveries were all that were needed when the deadlock was broken.
A vote for Gerald Sinstead.
Tyler always annoyed me. Seemed to have a huge list of factoids he had to fit in irrespective of their pertinence at the time and just wouldn’t shut up inanely dribbling on and on, so would miss interesting play he should be drawing viewer’s attention to, so I spent most of time shouting at the screen; ‘what about that 40yrs pass by walker’ or ‘astonishing control by Mahrez’ etc.
But his worst offence was constantly sucking up to Neville - any match or circumstance would be brought back to Utd being better. Ended up with entire matches reminiscing about ‘92 - and no halftime relief as Rio (or any other ex Utd player they could find) then took over.
im glad he’s gone.
Ha ha - id forgotten that - so an extra point for him then!Always remember the chant from the kippax after Sinstadt had been caught in the porn cinema.
“Gerald Sinstadt is a w@nker, is a w@nker!”
I think it was also live on the big match, can’t remember who the game was against.
Probably nostalgia on my part calling him a great commentator.I remember him as a good commentator with a great voice
If that makes sense.
Factoids? Please don’t use that language on here, that belongs to the irritating Cockney **** and his sycophants on Radio 1 and 2 in thankfully the past.A vote for Gerald Sinstead.
