Southgate (no one's fool) so clearly has his eye on him to solve that midfield issue - England's entire structure is built around mitigating the weak central midfield we have, and even in his comments about future players he's so obviously thinking that Foden is the one to allow England to have a proper midfield.
He was ready to take his place ,in central midfield,at full international level,at least 12 months ago..If Southgate knew anything about football,or if Foden played for liverpool or manyoo,he would already be the most important central midfield player for england.Foden's energy class and high level central midfield technique is what England have been missing ....any fool could see that.We missed out on his talent at the last world cup.A very special talent which..england and the FA should have recognised ...and he should have been propelled into the Squad last summer......for there was a gaping hole, creativity wise for england,a void jordan Henderson could not fill....The FA should have instructed gareth to select Phil for the england side, notwithstanding his lack of City appearences. He was good enough then...as he is now. When you have talent like youngvFoden has,in football you dont fuck about.its what Brazil did with Pele and Jesus...,City did with Pardoe,Brum with Francis,Liverpool did with Owen..if your good enough.your old enough.
Phil Foden is quite clearly good enough, and has been since Pep was lost for words after his debut two years ago...
English football has been held baaach for over 12 months due to a failure to instantly recognize ..and reward.. class.

Just because a player is good enough to play for England does not mean they are good enough to play for any world class team.

We have competition for individual places and have built a world class squad for many positions.

I'm sure Southgate and Pep talk to each other and whilst the rest of England fans see us as depriving Foden from an England spot he aspires to better quality by being judged against a better City squad.

His time will come but only when his apprenticeship completes.

I'm not sure they do to be fair. Keyboard warriors might use it as a stick to beat City with, but most football fans I talk to think he's being handled extremely well and are very aware he's only a kid. Sure, they're also from an England perspective excited about him, and rightly so. But I don't see much other than anticipation that a very promising player is starting to break into the best team in the country.

I agree, he is being handled extremely well, I have been "told" that the young Mr Foden is already a father and has a child. At his age and with his talent as I have said earlier in this thread, the club have a duty of care towards all the clubs teenage employees and I hope they continue to support Phil in all aspects of his development. We all know of young talents that can suffer as a result of earning huge amounts of money and being in the public eye, it can't be easy, I refer to the likes of Best, Gascoigne Merson, Adams etc. who all suffered from the fame and temptations that can ruin a players performance and indeed their life outside football.

I hope Foden becomes a legend for us and realises his full potential.

A couple of days ago, posters on here were saying he ,s only a kid,not big enough or strong enough yet, blah blah.

Kinkladze was not big enough.
Neither was Gascoigne.
Nor David Silva.
Iniesta too small.
Bernardo - way too small.
Messi will never make it big, the midget.
Maradona was no giant.
Etc etc etc....

What was that King KDB said the other day?? Oh yeah.....

"Phil Foden is going to win some TITLES FOR CITY."

;)

With the form of Merlin and Mahrez at the moment , and looking how well Foden did against Cardiff , he deserves a chance from the bench in some of the games in the next few weeks and i dont mean just the last five minutes , he should be coming on around the hour mark and given a genuine chance to make an impression

Some people on here talking utter bollocks. Just because he seemed a lot stronger & handled the physical side OK they say that he should have started sooner & been playing more games. One even suggested that he should have started 2 years ago. The fact is he is only just showing NOW that he is more able to handle the physical side better which is why he started for the first time in the Premiership the other night. He was still much too lightweight 2 years ago & even 1 year ago. He even said himself he has been working on his physical strength in training. At the end of the day it is all about timing when to put a youngster in for his first full start.

He is committed to being here, has played a number of cup games, European games and has now made his first Premier League start. In what way is that not enough for an eighteen-year-old who plays for one of Europe's best clubs?

Foden isn't good enough when D.SIlva, B.Silva, KDB, Gundogan and Fernandinho are all fit and available. Not an excuse, it's a fact.

Every single week it's the same with Foden. We are the best team in Europe going for something that has never been done before, not some Manchester kids charity organisation.
I'm not so sure... at all.

Couldn't Foden rotate in - giving one of the above players a needed rest?

And, although I like Gundogan, Gundogan doesn't fit our side due to skill set (he's best deep in a non-defensive role, struggles on defense and further forward is OK - but not skilled enough to challenge the likes of the SIlvas.

Maybe I'm biased in favor of a young up-and-coming talent... I do however feel that Pep's instinct is to not trust youthful players on the whole, with some notable exceptions.
