Standing still so much that he's being called up to the full England squad?
Judging by the lack of a ball playing midfielder ,and the lack of goals from open play, not to mention no one capable of picking out Sterling's dangerous early forward runs into space during our WC run he should have made the full england squad ages ago..so yes he has stood stil.,imo.

And when he joins the squad and starts dancing round lesser players in training ,he will be asking himself...if i,m good enough for england why aren't i playing first team football in the prem?
His team mates will be asking him how long are you going to .wait Phil?
Soncho will be telling him how much he is enjoying 1st team football at club level..
His agent will pushing him to evaluate his position, letting him know what he can earn elsewhere...

Its one thing looking at Fodens career thru City fans eyes ....but City fan or not, this is one talented midfielder who knows exactly how good he is,even if others don.t...being called up for a friendly is one thing,he wont get picked for the matches that mean anything if he is still a non entity at City..

Pep needs to make his mind up about one of the outstanding home-grown players from our academy...or we will start to see top class prospects at youth level go elsewhere..Pep wont be here then of course, off to his next project......when will Foden decide to do the same?
Not to mention Diaz who ,to me,looks the more gifted of the two,but perhaps not as team oriented as Foden...

Every time he has played he has looked impressive so it a shame that he couldn't even get on the bench yesterday against a newly promoted side. He will get cheesed off with the oportunities he is being given. Sterling was getting starts for Liverpool in the PL when he was 17 and Ali was getting starts at spurs when he was 18 I think. Do people think Foden is better or worse than these guys? I think he is better than Ali and has the same potential as Sterling. Being held back by KDB and the Silvas' Is one thing but when he sees Gundogwan repeatedly getting chances and not delivering it will eventually pi$$ him off.
Bollocks

Exactly, his development is being handled well. Too soon for him to be starting PL games but I expect him and Brahim to start all games in the domestic cups. Looks like both have developed physically since last season.

What happens if we get knocked out early of the cups ? He’ll basically have no game time at all unless we are 3-0 up. It’s not enough now he needs more minutes and more games to develop. I think a loan might be the best option. Pep needs to have faith in him and the courage to play him or bring him off the bench more

If Diaz only plays cup games again how is that any different ? A few games a season isn’t enough to develop

Needs significant cameos first. One part is the physicality another part is the consideration that starting him means benching Gundogan which may unsettle the squad.

Foden showed potential but I would like to see more 20-30 minute cameos and then by playing well, he would earn his place and nobody could complain. But to start him next game for example is out of the question for me.

He played 45 minutes in the league last season. Realistically, how much did you expect that to 'jump'?

Plus, looking at our bench and figuring in Kev will have a spot in the 18 when fit. Who does he, on merit, replace?

He'll get his chance in the cups, the tail end of Huddersfield-esque games. Until then he's gaining a better education in training than he would get doing anything else at most other clubs.

So what then - he just continues to play reserve football and train all season. He is good enough now imo. Training and a few games here and there is not enough now. He’s not going to develop into a top class player that way. Game time is what will develop him.

What happens if we get knocked out of the cups early ?? No game time all season ?. Also you say about the squad, but you can apply that to next season and the one after that. We may as well never put him on the bench as there will always be 50m players ahead of him.

Training only takes you so far. You don’t become a better player through training, playing proper games is what develops you. We either start having faith in him and at least putting him on the bench or he will end up leaving - Diaz will imo as he’s barely going to feature at all.

I never said start him the next game. Obviously he’s not first choice right now. But for example he should have been on the bench yesterday. It’s not going to unsettle the squad as he is good enough. That’s would also show very unprofessional attitudes from the players.

I would just like to see him get more game time this season and potentially be starting league games. I don’t think that’s too unrealistic. We have potentially one the best talents in a generation and he’s too good to be playing reserve football or stuck in the stands.

I think it’s a hard juggling act keeping players happy especially when some of these players have just helped us win 2 trophies and broken record after record. Delph wasn’t on the bench in the first two games and as far as I know he wasn’t injured.

It’s a tricky one. Sane hasn’t started yet, Otamendi similar. Stones left out yesterday despite playing really well the first two games.

Personally I would have put Foden on when we went 4-1 up against Huddersfield.

I would also have him on the bench as I’m
Not sure why we need two central defenders as subs.

However I can see why Pep is sticking with the others so far.

The need to keep players happy could actually cost us if everyone is fit and that’s probably why Pep keeps a small squad.

Evening Karen,

So I take it by your response that you do not think he is as good as Sterling or Ali? Sorry if I misinterpreted.

CLB
He is not as good as raz,ali is overated in my opinion
He is a city fan being managed by pep, training and get some minutes with some of the worlds best players,he won't be leaving anytime soon if ever,he is part of the group who got 100pts,who do you leave out for him to start games? we don't know why he didn't make the squad yesterday but people are having a fit over it anyway, when he is fit i would like to see him on the bench for prem games if there is space, pep and the team seem to trust him,he is being managed and mentored by the best who know much better than we fans do,i expect the inj to kev has affected things for phil, dave was due to play less which would have opened up a place for him but we have to play dave, lets see what happens when kev returns
