The thing about Rooney was he was physically a 24 year old when he was 18 and was always going to have a short career (age wise) as by the time he was 28 his fitness was that of a 33 year old. Phil looks like he's 18 at the moment so throwing him in with 27 year old opposition players from the start is not a wise choice. He needs easing in.

Exactly, his development is being handled well. Too soon for him to be starting PL games but I expect him and Brahim to start all games in the domestic cups. Looks like both have developed physically since last season.

Really difficult to see how he could have got on the bench yesterday. Could have possibly dropped Nico or Stones but that just doesn't happen. Both are more senior that Foden. The obvious choice is Gundogwan but he seems to be Peps favourite so I can't see him being dropped any time soon.

Let’s hope we don’t draw Liverpool away in the 3rd round or the league cup then, as there will be plenty of people unhappy on here if we don’t play a full strength team.

Who on the bench today should be replaced by Foden. He is not good enough yet to be a starting 11 player. De Bruyne and Danilo will be returning to panel soon. I would love to see Foden Diaz Zinchenko etc get a good run with the team but can't see it unless there are injuries or suspensions. By buying Mahrez this season and trying to get a Jorginho type player it will be even harder for them to breakthrough. I personally would have liked us get rid of all the surplus players but not buy Mahrez and play the likes of Foden. cant see it happening this season

Well there's the problem isn't it. There will always be a £50 million+ player ahead of him. And for as much as Pep goes on about how good he is and how important it is to have a local player he doesn't put his trust in him when it counts. Sure he'll throw him in the pre season friendlies and the charity shield but an actual game that matters? Nope he doesn't get a minute of football unless the game is won and we're 3 or 4 goal ahead. What use is that to Foden? A loan is the only way forward and I could certainly see one the the lower placed Premier League sides wanting to take him.

And if we go out he wont get a start for at least four months unless we wins our Champions League group early. Dangerous game for hin only giving him starts in the cup. Last year Wolves was unlucky not to beat us. Pep needs to give him starts now when KDB is injured. If not I doubt he’ll get much more minutes than he did last year in the PL. He’s one of the best players born in this century atm, he needs competetive game time.

Why is it too soon for Foden to be starting PL games?

Exactly!! I dont care who he replaces ..he s home grown, supremely talented has a real eye for goal, glides past folk liks they are not there, has no supposed WC hangover/fatigue excuse, will run all day,is already one of ths best passers of a football in the prem-doesnt shirk a tackle, about to be called into the full england squad,..and,is fully aware of the talent he has,and having virtually stood still for 12 months, will ,imo,be off next summer..why should he wait around to see who the next foreign multi million pound midfield signing is?.?

Every time he has played he has looked impressive so it a shame that he couldn't even get on the bench yesterday against a newly promoted side. He will get cheesed off with the oportunities he is being given. Sterling was getting starts for Liverpool in the PL when he was 17 and Ali was getting starts at spurs when he was 18 I think. Do people think Foden is better or worse than these guys? I think he is better than Ali and has the same potential as Sterling. Being held back by KDB and the Silvas' Is one thing but when he sees Gundogwan repeatedly getting chances and not delivering it will eventually pi$$ him off.
