Whilst it was fantastic to see him start the three league games towards the end of the season, he still only played 328 mins of league football in total. Hopefully he’ll get a big increase next season, but I’m not sure where the extra minutes will come from if Gundogan stays and De Bruyne remains fit.

They'll come from him showing he warrants them.

David not playing as frequently (if at all, depending on how the summer goes), that’s where.

It's not only,it's part of his developement to get mins across the different competitions,he is coming along at a decent pace

Dave is not leaving this summer
You know my love of David — we share so much in common: dual-ethnicity (Spanish and Manc), a silky first touch, excellent vision, and beautiful hair. We even share a name. And I still think he is our greatest ever player (thus far). So, of course, I want him here until he retires.

But I wouldn’t be begrudge him for taking a lucrative offer to go elsewhere (not in the PL, mind) for a few years at the end of his career (and then likely retiring at Las Palmas). He probably won’t go this summer, but I am reserving myself just in case he does.

Either way, he very likely will not be playing as much next season, which means more minutes for Phil, and that’s not even counting him being picked over others if competitors in his role lose form.
