Haven't tried the peppered steak but I will next match. I had the meat and potato. Excellent pie but smaller than last years pie. Unfortunately, the chicken balti was indeed crap, virtually no meat, tasted like a microwve chicken curry sauce and the pastry was hard even though not overcooked. The burger has improved though, decent thickness of meat. I reccommend bringing a packed lunch or find a chippy outside the ground

Dont get me started on the Cornish Pasty debate. Never in the history of mankind has a pastry promised so much and delivered so little. Before anyone chips in with "You want to try one from xxxx" - I probably have and I was probably underwhelmed. Whilst I'm not sure they actually qualify as a pie, even as a savoury pastry they disappoint on every level.

My understanding is that they were invented so that the miners in Cornwall could take them down the pit. I can only imagine that they used them to dig with because they are of absolutely no use for anything else.

When I eventually get some closure on the current 'Baltipiegate' situation I will resume my quest to seek a Cornish pasty that actually tastes of something. If I fail then I will seek to have them banned on the grounds of blandness.

PS The Pork and Apple suggestion certainly has some merit Ricster, I see you have an eye for pastry

I was so impressed with your letter to the nice people at Hollands, indeed I would go so far as to say I was in awe, but now you have let yourself down. There are, i'll admit, many examples of flaccid meat-mean tastelessness and dried up peppery monstrosities in this world, but a good pasty is a fine, fine thing and deserves our respect.

I'm not dissing the pasty just for the sake of it.

When it comes to savoury pastry snacks never say never and I am always prepared to be enlightened. I can only speak from my experience and pie-wise I have lots to draw on. With pasties, I get all of the indigestion but without any of the reward. This doesn't sit comfortably with me. I don't mind the odd bit of acid reflux providing my taste buds have been well and truly serviced.

Where am I going wrong here?

Easy mate - you need to wait until the pasty has gone cold before you eat it - guaranteed no indigestion.

I'm prepared to try your suggestion Mr T but eating a pie cold is usually reserved for extremely hot days and eaten with salad. You are surely not suggesting eating a pie cold on a cold and windy December Wednesday?

Err it is August Didsberry Blue - but even so I am partial to eating things cold - baked beans or mushy peas straight from the can is my idea of a treat whatever the weather.

Sorry to go a little of subject here..BUT...Does anyone know why the bar staff can't pre-pull the pints before half time?

No thats a valid point mate.
Please forgive me but I havent been to the ground for 3 years now as I have been away (Australia not strangeways).
But while reading this thread I was wondering if they had sorted the bar staff out yet as it was an effing nightmare getting a pint in at half time. Its sounds by your comment that they havent. I thought installing one of them taps that do 6 pints at a time like Mary D's & other grounds have. Or at least half filling the pints ready for half time, then just topping them up.
I was friends with a bloke who delivered for Lindely catering (the caters that then had City's bars) and he told me that they insisted on using agency staff and continuously rotating staff to different bars. And he reckoned there was 4 grand missing every game due to staff dipping their hands in the till or giving away free pints, pies etc to mates.
Now like I said its been 3 years since I was there and about 5 years since I spoke with my friend from Lindely but I am wondering if City make anything from the stalls or if the caterers simply lease them? And if there is still a problem with the staff is that why the food & drink is extortionate?
A Fosters is a full British pound more than when I last went so in these hard times when I next go I will be armed with a hip flask & snickers in my pocket. So it matters not if theres pedigree chum in the pies. Still a shame to hear the Balti pies have changed though.
Class letter didsberryblue, hope you submit your reply if you recieve one.

Do you know what I miss... Being able to order your half time pint before the game. Half time comes and your pints waiting for you, no faffing around waiting. It was already paid for and name taken. Only bit I miss from the old ground tbh.
