PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I know what you mean but disagree. When our owners started to transform the club and demonstrate our business model was working, Arsenal, United and Liverpool had a choice. They could either copy us or try to stop us moving forward with the plan.

Thank God they chose the latter. At the time there were quite a few sports economic papers published pointing this out. Even better they had multiple time periods to review their failed decision and turn back. There was a tipping point about 5 years ago where it was their last chance to catch and then overtake City using their historical popularity to their advantage, and all three carried on down the road to nowhere refusing to invest in their own clubs.

We are now the strongest football club in the World both on and off the pitch. There is no reputational damage at all except in fans heads and the press. The Club, in the time this has been going on, has won 17 major trophies has the highest revenue in football and is the biggest brand overtaking Real Madrid and Barcelona. City are now expanding the area around the stadium in addition to the stadium itself. Contrast those huge achievements with the clubs that tried to stop us…how have they got on? Did it work?

The red clubs have put enormous effort into trying to stop us and, at the same time, have slipped further and further behind until they are now too late.

So what is left? Surely the supporters of those clubs would be furious at their own club? Well one set is but the others….not so much. What can they do to distract people from their abject failure to tackle City correctly when they had the chance?

The answer is to create a situation whereby fans believe huge reputational damage has been done to City from which they will ultimately never recover.

It’s a shame that some of our own fans believe it but it doesn’t make any difference. City decided to be “best in class” in all areas and it’s worked quicker than they expected because nobody effectively challenged them In the way they thought. Jesus…Khaldoon even told them at one point “we are not responsible for your failures” and “just accept we are here” He was basically saying if you don’t like it copy us If you think you are losing out.

City fans often say why don’t the club sue this person or that person for lying…not a warning, actually do it. The reason they don’t is because City will not get involved in battles that do not matter to them. They focus on the plan and move forward, ever evolving.

City will never tell its own fans not to get upset about the press, they will hope they notice that it hasn’t worked and enjoy the success but, in the end, even that doesn’t matter to them it’s not their job.

In the end people will believe what they want to believe but the facts are what matter. City have played it beautifully.

As for the other clubs well they should thank their lucky stars football has loyal customers. In any other business their boards would have been fired by the shareholders years ago for failing to respond to the challenge and instead claiming victory by way of reuputational damage while their clubs sank without trace.
Double like. Not sure I agree with all of it, but a very well argued case.

Would still be nice to be respected for what the club as achieved though, especially in our own country.

It doesn’t look like a big win for them because it isn’t.

I would say that they have caused reputational damage. It's not impacted us financially perhaps, but in a sporting context the success we have had has been caveated by the charges. Instead of just celebrating our success it was "City, who face 115 charges" repeated in every article or on every radio station.

We could just get on with it and not care what rival fans or the media think, but I personally do.

I'd guess that at the time only one of those three clubs was in a position financially to go toe to toe with us and that's obviously Man U and I've always wondered why they didn't. Be interesting to know why the Glazers chose not to: greed, arrogance, stupidity? Maybe all three but they jumped into bed with Henry and Kroenke and, whilst they've personally done better than alright, their club is a basket case and their fans (somewhat understandably) hate them.

Don’t think Khaldoon will go down that route, doesn’t appear to operate in that manner…..
Although he did say in his end-of-season interview that he was angry about the charges and will have a lot to say when the time is right. What that means I've no idea, but it suggests that if we're cleared then he - and possibly we as a club - may go after certain clubs and certain people

Purely speculating, of course, but I guess if the PL had, say, a whistleblower witness of their own that could potentially counter our evidence. I doubt they have, but you'd imagine they must have something that gave them confidence to proceed with such serious charges. Unless the aim really was just to smear our name, as some have claimed, but it will be more reputationally damaging to the PL if the charges are thrown out. If they've just been railroaded into this by certain clubs then their credibility is shot.
Remember Susanna Dineage? She was appointed CEO, but withdrew a month later. No reason was given at the time but later
she remarked that certain clubs had too much influence over PL decisions.

And that's exactly the same position as UEFA were in. We know for an absolute fact that Ceferin was desperately trying to keep the cartel clubs happy, by getting us to plead guilty to what were described to me by a senior member of staff as 'technical accounting breaches' and accept a token fine. But he also knew they really had fuck all on us, and not much that would stick, so he had to try to keep us happy as well.

We refused to be the meat in the sandwich and effectively won at CAS. I'm confident we'll see pretty much the same outcome here (that we'll fight and win, rather than be cleared by CAS I mean).

The worry for me, much like with UEFA, is that this isn't a fair fight. We clearly identified UEFA's agenda and didn't play ball - hence the fine from CAS as widely reported. What didn't see daylight is CAS' statement regarding their concerns about the leaks from UEFA. CAS have to believe UEFA are impartial as it's a fundamental of any sporting body. But it's so far from the truth. And I worry the PL panel could similarly decide it's happy enough to find guilt without real evidence.

How is that going to look in any written determination though? "The Premier League produced no evidence to substantiate their claims. Manchester City provided sworn testimony under oath of the Etisalat CEO and an audit trail showing that sponsorship funding came from the bank account of Etisalat. The panel is not persuaded by the evidence of Manchester City, and therefore finds that on balance of probabilities the unsubstantiated claims of the Premier League are true".
