Pretty impossible with the introduction of the regulator and the new rules
Don’t recall Everton fans expressing any particular views at the time and even if they did, I doubt those views were taken into account by Kenwright when casting his vote, which will have been based on what he thought was best for Everton more than stopping City (although I accept the two things would not have been seen as mutually exclusive). The thing is @gordondaviesmoustache it wasn’t a secret back room vote, everyone was aware, it was well publicised & the Everton fans were happy with it. It was seen as a way of stopping City & they were up for it.
Obviously they have realised now that it scuppers clubs with ambition so I’m caught between feeling sorry & fuck em.
It was filmed (perhaps unusually for an IoD dinner at the time). I think that’s what did for him.The power of the tabloids in the 80s. Everyone actually read the same front page stories, none of this “feeds” nonsense.
Add to the fact that your customer base was likely Sun & Mirror readers & you’re done for.
But who snitched? In a room with people who have common interests, it wasn’t the worst comment & hardly front page news. I’m sure there is more skulduggery behind it.

From the club’s point of view any temptation to say ‘fuck you’ to Everton should be resisted. If our alliances had been stronger when the vote was made, especially relative to United and Liverpool, then FFP wouldn’t have been introduced in the first place and we don’t go about building those alliances by telling clubs like Everton ‘I told you so’, especially when we have been such beneficiaries from their decision. That seems especially churlish to me.
Them and Forest are both potential allies about the shape the English game will (or won’t) take in the months and years ahead and we isolate ourselves unnecessarily from clubs like that at our peril, giving what we are up against, which doubtless includes an enduring aspiration for a ESL in some quarters.
Surely, stopping that happening again is far more important than point scoring because Bill Kenwright lacked any vision and was too emotional?
The PL have painted themselves into corner, and I so bet they are regretting it now, but let’s not forget that the PL is essentially its members and so wielding power is about building alliances therein, which we are now well placed to do.Good points, I can be swayed….. you put a good argument across but the main point is how they’ve been working with the EPL & yet instead of working for a solution it was the EPL that said fuck em.
Also anyone sharing a city with those cunts needs the benefit of our doubt.
