Plastic carrier bag cost to double

Good luck with that. In our Asda every, and I mean every, veg and fruit is pre-packed in plastic. Really f..king annoys me. When I go into a supermarket that has fruit or veg loose I always put it in the trolly loose and pack it away at the till. We are very, very lucky around here we have a local market twice a week so can buy it loose.

My ERO and girlfriend arrived at Ewing Towers with loads of veg they'd had delivered at their Islington slum from 'local' supplier in Kent - carrots, turnips, parsnips - all caked in Kentish sedimentary shite. Loose is a great idea if yer not weighing in half dirt!

I get my shopping delivered, and specifically request NO PLASTIC BAGS. Tesco are generally good, but you sometimes get a numpty packer who puts a clove of garlic in a plastic bag and then puts that in a paper bag. I've had numerous refunds and stuff when I've complained, but in reality, I'd just prefer them to only use the paper bags, that's all I'm after. Those jellyfish bags are fucking pointless.

The annoying thing is every time the answer is tax the consumer. Plastic bags enable us to take stuff home - ooooo plastic bags are bad for the environment - TAX plastic bags. Diesel cars are good for the environment. Diesel cars are now bad for the environment. We made you buy them now we want to tax you for using them.

Tell you what why not tax at the fucking source? I can't make a car cleaner - I can only follow govt guidelines that tell me they were good. Its all shite its big business vs the little guy - make the little guy pay.

I think it's both - we need to take responsibility as individuals and the only way to effectively do that is tax us. The change in bin routines is a classic example - we switched to one 'waste' collection every 3 weeks and it's fantastic. I used to fill a bin every week and now I can get by (with 2 kids and 2 dogs) for 3 weeks. Asking industry to fix this problem just wouldn't work.

Also the company I work for are investing heavily in plastic-free life, as the views in this thread show, the attitude of the consumer is strong on this one. So we're working together in my view.

Surely the only way to change people's behaviour is make them pay more.
But I get your point.

With Mcdonalds, the gov, should double the cost of a meal with tax in order to stop them using all that shite packaging and straws.

All this help the environment what we do wont make one bit of a difference while the usa china and india 3 of rhe biggest countries in the world are bit serious about it! We are a little island! Its good for the governent though its a money making tax galore

Always behave as you wish others to behave, set a leading example.

Even if the others don’t follow we are still making a positive impact.

Include the manufacturers in the "people". An extreme comparison I know but do they go after drug users, dealers or both? Its about supply too - The amount of packaging presented by Xmas dinners was amazing - bins got emptied today round here - the only one the lid went down on was the 90 year old ladies one who lives on her own across the road...............and she was away over Christmas !

Just polished off a Cadburys selection box. The box itself is cardboard and can be recycled but the tray the chocolate was in is black plastic and can't be recycled.
They shouldn't be allowed to use materials that can't be recycled. I can only imagine that black plastic/foam is cheaper.
