The whole seeding idea annoys me, especially as it was brought in late when some big nations were struggling to qualify. I still think they have a chance though
Some of the
football blogs and previews I've read are tipping Ireland to qualify for the World Cup and say Domenech's team selection is erratic and he has lost the faith of the fans and players. I'm hoping the Irish can scrape through.
You know what now. I'm dreading it. I just..I don't know. France will give us feck all tickets to the game in France, just the bare minimum. Despite the fact that they're after returning a bucket load of theirs for this match. They wont sell them, they wont show up, but they'll be damned if they think that the Irish will outnumber them in France.
And then, to top it all off they're charging through the roof for tv rights, RTE are refusing to pay those rates, which are ridiculous so for the people who haven't been able to get tickets, we'll have nothing to watch it on.
We mightn't have the best team, but ffs, players like Given, Keane, Duff, they all deserve to get one last chance at going to the world cup. It's every players dream to go play and for them to have what was a pretty likely chance of qualifying to a small chance of qualifying all because of the clowns that run the footballing world's thirst for money..it's sickening and unfair. Screw the little guy right. We mighn't have the best team out there but our players will try a hell lot harder then some of the clowns out there like Ronaldo, and our supporters go out and have a good time and never cause any bother. What we lacked in talent we made up for in passion and spirit and pride, and I thought we were a good addition to a comp, apparently not because the craic and atmosphere and passion and fight means nothing when it's up against money.
You know, at least if we don't beat France it'll be something, if it was a weaker team and we didn't win I wouldn't be able to live with it.
I just hope that we go out and do our best and hopefully get a result.
Pray that our team is awake. That our defense stays awake and shows the heart and determination that they have in this campaign earlier to keep France out.
That our forwards find the back of the net and that somehow our midfield finds that spark it's been missing. And if all that fails, we most hope and pray that Given is better then brilliant. Nearly every day he's brilliant, but there are days where his talent defys logic, and I hope that the French games are two of those.
We may not have the type of brilliant players France have, they pretty much outclass us, by far, in every position, with the exception of our keeper. But brilliant individual players do not make a good team and that's what we have to pray happens.
A clean sheet at home will be brilliant and then go out in the French away game, hold the French back, and hope that their fans get on their backs causing them to self destruct.
Whatever happens though, Ijust hope that when it comes down to it, and if we don't qualify, that it's not an individuals error....And so help me God if it's a refs decision..
We may not be as good but we'll give them hell.
I'd love nothing more for us to qualify and rub it in the face of the idiots who came up with the seeds.
