He is a defensive midfielder, not the next Iniesta.

He does the dirty work, on the quiet and does it effectively.

There is a reason why he is rated in the game and why he gets picked weekly.

^ What dirty work? He didn't win a single tackle today and has very low tackle completion rate for a specialist holding midfielder. All he does is follow the opponent and often gets left behind. He's been very disappointing besides a few performances. Fernandinho isn't even a 'real' holding midfielder and makes more tackles and interceptions than Fernando, who is a specialist holding midfielder. Let's hope he has a better second season because this is a position we could really upgrade.

You do a great job posting info about City , that's where your contribution should end as your knowledge of the playing side is not the best

Rather than put people down with your snide one sentence posts, why don't you just for once say something with substance to refute or (god forbid) agree with a person. Please, tell me how Fernando has been good for us this season and measure his contribution in today's game for me. Tell me where I'm wrong, convince me of his performance(s).

The reason a lot of good posters have stopped appearing here over the years is people like you, who contribute fuck all but make it your mission to insult others.

Assuming he's not moved on we need to find a new roll for him as he reminds me of Torres at Chelsea, seems to have no idea where to go or what to do on the pitch.

Trouble is there's that much work to do with the squad he's likely to still be here next season.

What's incorrect about what he's said?

With regards to the playing side of things where a holding midfielder is concerned the very least you can expect is breaking up attacks and tackling; Fernando does neither.

He very often gets caught in no mans land marking shadows. Gets far too tight to his own teammates, be it Yaya or Dinho, leaving huge gaps in the midfield.

It's like watching a dog chasing his own tail at times.

Now, please, enlighten us with your knowledge of the game and how Fernando is the bestest everest.

Barely noticed him. Fernandinho had a blinder next to him though. You got a link that shows him not winning any tackles LoveCity? What about interceptions?

Sits where he supposed to, shuts down space well and kept the shape of the team much better than we normally do. Eriksen couldn't find any space all game, when normally we'd gift him a giant hole in front of our defence to do as he pleased He's not been flying into tackles like he did at Porto, but I suspect that's down to not trusting anyone else to cover for him if he gets it wrong. Fernandinho is free to charge around like a lunatic, throwing himself into tackles, safe in the knowledge that he's not leaving a massive hole in behind him.

He could be playing better, but he's giving us a shape and solidity that we haven't really had all season and makes Fernandinho's life a hell of a lot easier.

0 tackles, 2 interceptions, 0 clearances, 0 blocked shots, 0 fouls.

I personally don't even like the concept of a specialist defensive midfielder anymore. I prefer 2 midfielders who can both tackle, press, pass between the lines and contribute a lot to the game. Verratti at PSG to me is what a modern day 'holding' midfielder should be.

Could have sworn he blocked a certain goal for spurs after MDM got into a bit of a mess. I must have been dreaming.

Sometimes the sign of a good player is one you don't notice. Not in this case however - we had tons of defending to do and somehow he didn't manage to do any, which is impressive.

Their players were constantly drifting behind our midfield and into the final third, and even into our box on a few occasions (Mason), and Fernando was nowhere to be seen.

A proper 'defensive' midfielder and they don't cut through us all game like they did today. Good job the back 4 got pretty much everything spot on.
