Player thread: Gael Clichy (2014/15)

Re: Gael Clichy

Thought he played well

Was dead on his feet by the end, not to mention having to deal with Sanchez and Alves all by himself for the most part.

I'm with you on that. Zaba was exactly the same and put in a far worse effort to get back than Clichy did for the goal about 3 minutes earlier, but nothing came of it. Both fullbacks put in a hell of a shift and were just knackered by the end. The only slight criticism I have is of that awful cross when clear through and with all the time in the world. Just didn't make his mind up, far too indecisive, which is one of his major problems with the ball.

Re: Gael Clichy

I thought he defended well almost all night. He was against top, top quality players and I didn't see Kolarov helping out much. He just stood there when they were attacking.

Whats happened to him????
Strange isn't it. Supposed to be on his prime, but had his only good season in 2011-12 with City. Sell him in the summer, if someone wants him. Doubt there will be queue because he is 30 years old next summer and two shit seasons under his belt.

Re: Gael Clichy

Think he has been well below par recently and need to give kolorov a run of games as he is no worse defending and offer far greater threat on break

Re: Gael Clichy

In fairness to Clichy and the other full backs it's probably the hardest position to play now. Especially for City. You are expected to provide width when we are attacking and solidity when defending. It's too much. If we persist in playing 4-4-2 then we should tell the full backs not to go forward. I've a feeling we are crucifying our defenders at the moment for what is basically the managers tactical errors.
