Player thread: Gael Clichy (2014/15)

Re: Gael Clichy

There in lies the problem, our Left Back has NO one in front of him unlike on the Right side and there for gets caught out more, I seen Clichy try his nuts off on saturdaym, yes he made mistakes but he also done alot of good, guess we have differing views.. Boring world if we did'nt.

Key point that we are all aware is that they need help ahead of the left back.

Exactly, why people don't realise that Clichy and Kolarov get exposed is because in our 4 4 2 formation Clchy gets very little protection from the playe ahead of him and is very often 2 vs 1. Under those circumstances I think he does an unbelievable job,

Re: Gael Clichy

He's never two v one, that would suggest he's back in position but gets overrun, which doesn't happen. He's just stood ther doing fuck all, letting people run off the back of him. It's a complete cop out to blame it on Silva. It's not other teams fullbacks that keep getting in, it's their wingers, who he just doesn't track at all. I don't even recall West Hams RB even going past the halfway line.

Re: Gael Clichy

He's shown that he is a good player but is out of sorts at the moment. It must be said though, that the while defence is looking a bit of a mess though, so perhaps a bit harsh to lay all the blame at his door.

I disagree. Agaisnt hull, clichy got raped with silva in front of him. Second half we played a slightly different formation with milner covering clichy. No more trouble down that side for the rest of the game. It's never ending problem.

Well if you bring Milner over there to do the defending instead of Clichy, then obviously that helps as Milner is a better defender than Clichy, but Clichy still does fuck all. One on one he gets roasted, so we apparently need to play a midfielder to do his defending for him? I'm all for midfielders covering the opposition fullback and stopping them getting two on ones with your fullback, but no fullback worth his salt should need a midfielder ahead of him in order to cope with just one man, unless that one man is pretty special.

Re: Gael Clichy

blaming silva is laughable, clichy is poor end of.
watch the first goal on Saturday once done by the pass he is still trotting off out wide day dreaming

Re: Gael Clichy

The problem is that it isn't just Clichy. The rest of the defence is playing pretty badly too. Normally reliable players like Zaba and Kompany look out of sorts as well.
