Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

See ya Jimmy.

Defo a step down from us, regarding players he will be with. Ive nothing against jimmy, but I don't think he's the player that would win us titles and champs league.
I don't see liverpool getting anywhere near a title for a long time tbh.

Apart from the two titles he did win with us - but I see your point. Moving forward we need a freshen up, which he has probably been told is happening

Good luck Jimmy you have been part of the best times I have had as a 50 year old blue .
Would love to know the exact reason you have decided to leave as you have everything at City ,but that's your choice I suppose .

By the way I do think he has treated City appallingly in all this and with hindsight I'm sure we would have flogged him last summer ,he must at some point have said to somebody that he would resign when he knew he wouldn't .

Totally agree.

Had he just come out months ago and said he would be leaving in the summer, that would have been fine. He's lied for months basically.
I've been saying it for a while now he has strung us along and disrespected our club for the best part of a year now making silly demands instead of having the plums to just say I want to leave! He has been demanding to play in a number 10 role ahead of silva which is idiotic.

He's been promised the slot vacated by Gerrard obviously, and 1st choice on team sheet

Am i missing something. How do we know Milner lied ? I haven't heard him say anything re his contract situation.
I've read certain assumptions from our glorious media. Are we now deciding to take this as gospel ?

not good for us....Enough said :(

we can buy better strikers than Milner, better wingers, better midfielders and better full backs....but as Pelle said in a recent interview....difficult to find someone that can play ALL those positions and do solid job.....I agree, not anywhere near our best players BUT this squad was full of players that didn't give effort or fight in games last season.....every team in the league needs a player like Milner including us.....we might have to buy 2 different players that will do the job that Milner did for us last year.....hate to say it but there will be games against relegation sides next year when a "Milner" type player would come in very handy....

It's only James Milner, fuck me I'd hate to see Aguero leave but purely to see the reaction on here, I hope fucks off tomorrow.

Well said.

Done well at the club won trophies and played in champions league. For all his good he lack that winning mentality by making the move away to Liverpool. How many players would turn down the chance to be competing for the title and cups and playing in champions league to playing for a team outside of the champions league. He sold himself short here. If he was a winner he would of resign with the club and battled for his place in the team like everyone else.

Good player and will be appreciated by most for his commitment over the last few years and wished all the best for the future.

Jimmy must have seen who we are looking at signing and thought that's me off then.

I think we will regret losing him. He's been a good player. When we lost Tevez we lost a certain amount of that drive and workrate, now we look set to lose James too, we are looking a bit shy on the grafting front. I can only hope we bring in some young, enthusiastic and relentlessly hard working talent to replace.

A model pro at all times on and off the pitch who won all he can domestically with us.

Never gave anything less than full commitment on the pitch and he certainly improved as a player with us

Best wishes to him at Liverpool. A good player who will work hard, lacks real quality in the final third especially form outwide which has always been a criticism of mine with Jimmy. He obviously wants to play a more central role but that isnt going to happen with us. He isnt going to oust Yaya, silva or fernandihnio from a central position, and as many have said if he is aware of who we are trying to buy that job could have become even harder.

One thing that some people may be overlooking a little is also he may have the chance to captain liverpool. Again he has won all you can domestically with us so its probably the final feather in his cap domestically as well which will be attractive for him.

Also getting regular game time inhis more favoured central position and therefore more likelyhood of continued international recognition in terms of keeping his place in the England team (something that could have become threatened if he thought he was going to get less game time with new arrivals this summer)

Certainly not irreplaceable in terms of ability but attitude you would probably be pushed hard to find better

Well said.

So what you're both saying is that there is no other player in the whole wide world that could do the job that Milner does? Really?

Personally, I'm happy for him (if that's what floats his boat), and very excited for us.

PS: Just spoke to a dipper whose smirky one liner to me was "Oh well, never mind. At least you've still got Yaya...hahahaha". Shook my head and walked away as I really couldn't be bothered to explain how utterly stupid that sounded.

I think he will be missed. There were certain games where his energy lifted the team. Of course he was never the most skilful player, but his versatility was very handy. When we were short of strikers in December he filled in up front and did a pretty good job.

It was just that he wanted to play more. I can accept that. Mind you he has done the club out of a transfer fee. That leaves a slightly sour taste.
