Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

We've not been great in the transfer market recently, and there's a lack of quality home grown players available.
Even if we push the boat out for a 'big' home grown signing like Sterling, or Barkley, we're talking at least 30m for them, and no guarantee they'll work out.

Keeping Milner is a no brainer as we still have to ADD home grown players, let alone replace an outgoing one.

Is the the best home grown player out there? of course not. But he's the one of the better ones, and he's a very known quantity who's done well for us.
And if we opted to go for a 'cheaper' home grown player to make up the numbers, we'd still be hard pressed to find one that could genuinely contribute to the first team, and be versatile enough to play out of position IF necessary.

If the offer to Milner is true (£165,000 per week) and he signs it, he would become the most overpriced player in the history of football.

He will not end up being a regular starter at any top 8 PL team, Arsenal and Liverpool seriously when they see how bad he is he will soon be benched.

Remember Richards, Rodwell, Johnson and Sinclair leaving to show us why we should have given them a chance. They cannot get into bottom half teams same will happen with Milner he probably knows we are going to sign a few in the summer therefore should not be near the 1st team.

He cannot pass, cannot cross, has no control and uses his left leg to stand on but hey he can run so lets pick him every week! Should give Mo Farah a contract as well then.

Sense no make,

Wow. Crazy amount for a essentially a utility player who is English. Yes he is fan favourite cuz he runs around a lot but he won't be a difference maker who can make a decisive push toward a title. Plus he has really stalled on the previous offers by the club and could be going off on a free. I say just let him fick off and find another home grown replacement.

5 goals and 6 assists in about 15 starts aren't representative of a primitive workman of a footballer.

165 grand a week, YOUR AVIN A LAFF!!!

For that we'd have to be winning trophies and £25M transfer for English average player and £80k a week = £41Mish over 4 years

Milner £8m a year = £32M over 4 years, and for him to get that we're watching our captain pick up trophies a couple of times a year.

You can't have 10 Messi's and win anything, we're already shite at corners!

Spoke to him last week at petrol station.
Said to him that I would like him to stay but understand he wants to play every week, wished him well with what ever choice he made and he said thanks very much.
It is his work ethic we will miss, if you look at stats of ground covered. Every time he plays he covers the most for us. I'm not saying he is the most creative but if you said to him, follow a certain player he would and he is also versatile.

Like I said to him personally. Hope he stays, but if he goes, then good luck. Never been a moments trouble and puts a shift in.
