Re: Nasri - make him our captain

I still think he takes the safe option far too often Tolm. Lets be honest, his goal last night where has picked the ball up in the middle of the park, driven forward, beating men and smashing it in from 20 yards isn't the norm. if he had taken 6 touches to move 5 yards and then played a 3 yard pass to Silva, that would have been the norm.

I like Nasri, he is a very good player but for actual contribution in terms of goals/assists for an attacking player he doesn't produce what someone of his ability should. On this basis I think you will find as many City fans who would happily replace him as would make him captain!

Just come across this article that has come out today where Nasri refers to himself as a 'jerk' so I think that puts this debate to bed as to whether he would be a good captain - think he has answered the question for you....

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2015/02/12/8857112/nasri-sometimes-i-am-a-little-jerk?CMPID=TWUK_150212_nasrijerk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/pre ... _nasrijerk</a>

You sure about that?

On the contrary, he's saying he has no issue telling it how it is, regardless of being unpopular, and how he has moved on from his younger days.

There is ways about going about it - if you work in an office and tell somebody he is 'dickhead' and become disruptive then that aint helping the dressing room or the atmosphere around the club.

Not sure an unpopular Captain is the best way of moving forward if i'm honest. I can't believe you can read that article and think to yourself 'he's captain material because he tell's it how it is!

Re: Nasri - make him our captain

I think the role of captain is overated (especially in this country) and I would say they have more off field duties than on the field. Surely a leader is a leader no matter if he has a bit of elastic round his arm.

But Nasri has become a more integral part of the team over the past 12-18 months

You mean like he did with Silva on the byline before crossing for Milners goal? God forbid he ever does that again...

1 goal and 2 assists from last night is a terrible return too.

Vice captain material for me but maybe not over Yaya.

Re: Nasri - make him our captain

Captaincy doesn't really matter. We just need our big players taking responsibility and make right decisions on the pitch. At the moment only Nasri, Silva and Yaya are doing that. Kompany should simply focus on defending and organising the defence, nothing else. Likewise Zabaleta should just focus on his own game.

What's been noticeable in the run in 2011/12 and 2013/14 is that our big players came into their own (Yaya at Newcastle and Crystal Palace, Vinny against United, Nasri at home to West Ham, Kun at Everton, Dzeko at Everton, United and Palace and at home to Villa) if we're close in the last 6 games I would expect these guys to stand up and be counted again.

One of the biggest WUM threads I’ve ever seen in my 10 + years on here
Like others on here would you like to clarify why you think that?

I'd stick to your YouTube vids mate in the transfer forum.

Kompany is an amazing captain.
Has the full respect of the club, the players, the management and the fans.
An injury and loss of form for a few months and your giving us candidates to replace him???

Bizzare topic.

As for Nasri, hes in the Yaya, Aguero and Silva bracket for me. Huge loss when hes out injured.

The only thing bizarre is your reply or any need to have a sly dig.

Silva has the full respect of the club, the players, the management and fans, doesn't make him captain material, and we have since discussed the more likelier option of the vice-captaincy.

For the record, Kompany's injuries and loss of form go back at least 18 months.

You're right, it was a sly dig but only because of the topic stupidity i felt you deserved one.
If Kompany gets man of the match next week and gives a good interview after and Nasri plays bad and gets sent off will we still having this chat? So short sighted. 18 months????? No No No.
We have probably the best captain in the league.

Again, you consider it stupidity, what, because you don't happen to agree with my opinion?

There are plenty who have put forward valid arguments for and against.

You now want to define how I have arrived at my own opinion, based on a man-of-the-match display?

All you want to do is make it about Kompany, when his captaincy is not even up for debate with the people who actually make the decisions.

For the purposes of the debate, it was about Nasri's own qualities with regards captaincy/vice material?

And Kompany has been a shadow of his former self for close to two seasons, injuries taking their toll.

As I said, what he did last night wasn't the norm for him. The fact he is capable of doing that and what he did away at Rome can make him all the more frustrating, Some players have a fraction of Nasri's ability yet do more with it. Someone of his undoubted quality should be scoring and racking up assists on a regular basis but in the main he does take the safe option.

“From time to time, I'm a jerk,” Nasri said in an interview with L’Equipe 21.

“Sometimes it is better to buckle but it is something I can't do.

“I managed when I was younger and sometimes I went home with a knot in my stomach. Afterwards, you go off, but not with the right person.

“I’d therefore prefer to say everything I think, even if it means I'm not liked, even if it means I sound arrogant and a little prick. At least the folk I do like don't have to suffer.”

I'm warming to him....;-)
Sounds like my kind of guy tbh.

He is, without a doubt, one of the most intelligent members of our squad. I think he'd make great company over dinner. I also think he 'gets' the club.

I think making him skipper would be too fraught with risk, however, not least because of the effect that stripping the captaincy could have on Kompany and his acolytes within the dressing room. It's not like he hasn't delivered the goods since he got the job in the summer of 2011.

That said, there are established players within the squad far less suited for the role than Nasri and there have been players in our past who have held that position who have been less equipped for the job too eg Redmond, Tevez, so not the worst suggestion I've ever heard by a long stretch.
