merlin does it week in, week out in the hardest league in the world , xavi and iniesta have to play half a dozen games a season and for the rest of the season barca stroll around either finishing invariably in 1st or 2nd place. Merlin is yet to prove himself in the champs league , but he is playing for an inexperienced club with regards champs league football , (where as xavi and iniesta played for the best club side in the world for 2 or 3 seasons) but judge him when his career ends ,hes got at least 5 more seasons , to shut the "city fans" up, who think iniesta is a better player.
La Liga is the hardest league in the world in terms of quality. The only teams to knock Spanish teams out of European competition last season? Other Spanish teams.
No, it really isn't. It might be the hardest league to be a CB, as no one will help you and any tackle is a foul, but for a skillful ball player it's a fucking breeze.

They kick lumps out of Messi every week!

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

He is better than Ali B and that is saying something.

Not compared to what he'd get in the premier league, plus they get booked for it every time. Also, while they are triple teaming Messi, Iniesta has all the space in the world to do as he pleases.

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

Of course he drifts around but as we saw yet again today, he is much better coming in from the right.

Coming in from the left limits his options.

Anyway, he is the best footballer in this country and has been pretty much since he arrived. His technique and awareness on the ball is pretty much unmatched in world football.

He is the lad who all English kids should be trying to emulate, not the likes of Rooney.

Did that happen for Spain as well, when they won three consecutive tournaments?

He wasn't actually playing in La Liga when on International duty, so kind of makes that point irrelevant in regards to this discussion regarding which league it is easier to play that role in.

Okay, fair enough. I was referring to the overall Silva or Iniesta debate.

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

Another sublime performance. If he could finish/shoot he'd be up there with Messi and Ronaldo!
