Re: Mangala

I hope strikers are as scared of him as some of you guys are.

I like how your fans try to offer a fairly genuine appraisal of things, related to City or otherwise, but there's no need to go overboard. He's done nothing we don't see every day. If he ever leaps into the crowd with studs showing above waist height then it might be time to have a word.

Re: Mangala

There have been countless great players arrive at a club and be instantly criticised and surrounded in doubt both by media and fans. City fans are coming around to Mangala because though he makes the odd mistake you can see all the attributes are there for him to become a top top player. Demichelis was slated last season but has shown his experience in dealing with that, getting used to the pace of the league and being a very good defender who plays well whether he starts and has a consistent spell in the team or comes on after an injury. He went on to play in the World Cup final, and played very well throughout the competition.

In Vinny we had a player signed when playing a defensive midfield role and who didn't seem sure of where he wanted to play. He moved to centre back and showed an ability on the ball and a composure that had been gained from playing defensive midfield. He already had the strength and pace to go with it. We've seen Mangala hit the ball 40yards right to its target, we've seen him outstrength Costa, outpace Robben and defend very maturely. We've also seen the errors you might expect from a young player in a new league. The potential is there and once he finds the consistency he is going to be an absolute beast in our defence.

Thought Mangala played well against Everton.

Apart from that horrible tackle and one situation when he was caught in possession quite stupidly, I agree. Actually, he was excellent apart from that, not that our defence had that much work to do.

The thing I maybe like the most in him is how his simple hoofed clearances eventually end up as great passes. I don't think it's just random luck, because it happens most of the time and even in the youtube vids from his time in Porto, this seemed like a usual contribution in his game.

Its not random luck.Accurate long passes are a feature of this talented centre halfs game-no credit whatsoever from media ,
just a silly witch hunt after a couple of over zealous tackles-which some city fans are getting their knickers in a twist about cos the media have highlighted it...Of far more interest is his passing ability which , together with sergios suberb off the ball movement led to a decisive first goal at QPR. Not many teams will want to fuck with City this season, and the latest re-emergence of the "great" andy carrol together with the trip to chelsea and costa suggest that a more rugged approach will be important, in some matches later this season.

Not many centre backs have an assist to their name in the premiership this season, its not something that players in that position are known for...Well done Mangala for an eventful and promising start to what is hoped will be a sucessful time at City.

Re: Mangala

hes a good player, but hes picking up so many cards, for my liking. he could become a liability if we keep losing him due to him getting all these cards, maybe in time he will settle

Good post. His mistakes will iron out with a solid run in the side with a consistent partner beside him. Experience is a key attribute to majority of the world's best defenders. They have been there, made the mistakes and faced the scenarios that Mangala has yet to see or face. He will progress into a very good player if he takes heed from the likes of Martin, Vincent and the coaches.

Preach, brother man!

Re: Mangala

Saw this article on twitter about Mangala's performance, quite good in parts.
