Why does his price tag continue to crop up?

He was bought for his potential, hopefully for the next ten years, you'd have to be very short sighted to think otherwise.

Perhaps because that £30 million could have been used more wisely ie a player that could have been the difference yesterday

We should have saved the 'potential' signings until we were home and hosed in terms of FFP

And let another team sign him?

We required a centre half as much as creativity, the former,at the desired quality, was available and we were decisive in securing him.

Where we were as a club at that moment, in terms of what we could spend, im not sure we would have lost out too much by letting another club sign him

Not in the same way we would have lost out had we not been able to sign either Fabregas or Sanchez.....

who both wanted the bright lights......

According to who?

I was always given the impression we weren't in for either as we couldn't afford to be

Popular rumour only.

Even if it was purely financial, the club obviously decided where their priority lay,and ive no problem with that.

God forbid!

Seriously though, I doubt any other team in the premier league is pissed off that they didn't sign him and we wouldn't have been any worse off right now if we hadn't signed him. That statement would have made more sense if it was Sanchez, Costa or Fabregas we'd signed.

There were other centre halves available at the time, we didn't have to spend over £30m on somebody who isn't the finished article with well known concentration issues and tendencies to make silly mistakes. I do think he'll come good eventually however it was a mistake signing him, imo.

The point still stands tho, that the money could have been better off spent elsewhere

Funny, given elsewhere MDM is being slagged off left, right and centre for a poor game yesterday.
