He'll come good, just give him 3 or 4 years. He's still young.

I think he will be better next season. But in the same way that Garcia was better in his second season. I dont see him becoming the world class defender that some are predicting

3 or 4 years? I have to agree though not seen anything to say he will be world class but maybe in a stable back four with a partner in form would help.

4 years is an awful long time to give a player on huge wages and record transfer fee to bed in. I'd have thought in that time we'll have developed our own at a fraction of the cost who could do a job.
Not that I think it'll take that long for him to come good. He's raw at the moment with a mistake or two in him but that can be ironed out. The basics he has in abundance, it's just a case of getting him settled. Playing regularly in a back four that remains fairly constant would be a start.

So the fact that we paid top money for a player who will hopefully develop into the type of player we hoped he would be requires a lot more time.

I hope you are correct, perhaps the powers that be should have the same confidence and PL appearance time with some of our own academy players.
Alternatively, perhaps we should treat him like our homegrown 'prospects' and send him out on loan to other clubs until he either develops or he does not.

It's not been an ideal debut season when usual reliable playerss like Zabaleta and Kompany drop their level of performance and the midfield not protecting their defence often enough leaving them exposed. I understand why we've not given him regular time in a way, team's been a shambles and he'd have struggled while adapting to the team/league, though on the other hand he's not played enough games and consecutive ones too.

Cannot disagree that most players are not at their best but his price tag infers he has a certain amount of ability irrespective of his potential. As a defender it would help if he shone a little because the way how we are playing should give him plenty of practice.

I am struggling to remember him being outstanding in any game where our team was collectively not on song. Perhaps he is one of those players who only looks good in a side that collectively plays well.

Your second paragraph describes Kolorov to a tee, he's been here for a few years now and I can't ever remember him playing well when overall the teams been poor.
I've got a bit more hope for Mangala.

The only thing his price tag infers is what we paid for him.
He is a commodity that was for sale. The seller put a price on him and we agreed said price.

Ability and price do not neccessarily go hand in hand
