Eli had an excellent game tonight.

However, I am extremely fucking annoyed by the fact that the Sty commentators couldn't give him even one shred of credit.

His individual efforts were mentioned three times, to my recollection. Once when they talked about his strength and the other twice when long passes went astray, with something like, "Mangala has given the ball away.

Even Carragher, after the game could only say he thought Eli did better tonight, but thought we should try to get another centre-back.

All they see is his wrongly extorted transfer fee and can't bring themselves to admit he might actually be a great prospect.

Defended very well, but needs to stop trying to thread the eye of a needle with some of his passes out of defence!

Can we sign this giant for set pieces? Lol

Only if he brings his teammate LeBron James with him. That would be an Ibra-like centre-forward prospect if ever there was one!

Before getting distracted by that picture of Mozgov, I was coming on to say I thought Mangala looked impressive tonight. Other than a misplaced pass or two, he looked energetic, decisive, and like a complete monster back there.

I really want all our players to do well obviously, but even better when a guy like De Michelis (and hopefully Mangala this year) just smashes the established media/pundit narrative. Though he was actually quite a lot better last year than media scum had him, of course.

If Mangala and Kompany get to know each other and in particular learn not to commit at the same time i.e. one cover (and Kompany comes down off whatever trip he's been on - tonight was encouraging) I reckon we'll be ok.

Carried on from where he left off last season when he was our best centre back for the last couple of months of the season.
