Could be worse news on Aguero than City feared. Hearing it might well be ACL.

What the ?
It could be worse, or it could be better. It might well be the ACL, or it might not.
He's hoping it's bad no doubt! Scumbag!!
If it was bad, then there's no way Sergio would walk off, I'm hoping it's a month out, then he can come blasting back.

There's been a collective toughening up throughout the team, Nasri, Clichy, Yaya, Milner, have all upped their games, (as well as Aguero's obvious superb form,) they know the standard that must be maintained.
Yesterday's gritty performance was just what the team needed, they will not want to let all of Aguero's heroics go to waste, I'm sure they will do their utmost not to let Sergio down

A ray of hope to brighten your Sunday morning. From a physio....

Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, Aguero gets tackled, falls, then immediately gets back up and attempts to retrieve the ball again, at this point, his mechanical positioning is awkward and to reach he has to abduct at the hip rather than flex (a sideways motion, rather than a forward one), he is abducted almost fully, and plants his foot at full stretch. In this extended position the external rotation at the hip now needed to bring him back to a forward facing position causes an excessive rotation at the knee, stressing the medial collateral ligament (MCL) of the knee. Indeed, Sergio goes down and instantly holds his knee over his MCL.

The mechanism of injury is a concern, as this type of rotatory force to the knee, if excessive can damage the MCL, the cruciate ligaments and the meniscus, it’s called the ‘unhappy triad’ or ‘blown knee.’ Having said that, with no other player or impediment involved I don’t think the force was excessive enough to cause damage to the cruciates, but it could have tweaked the meniscus? So at this stage, until scans or further news we can only speculate. Having said that, as a purely remote observation from the perspective of a physio, Sergio’s injury might not be as serious as first feared and if an injury has indeed occurred, the signs are good that he has suffered a grade 1 or grade1-2 sprain to the MCL, which would mean anything from 2-5 weeks on the treatment table. It’s obviously difficult to tell and further news will almost certainly shine a clearer light as, having viewed the footage, it’s not out of the question that he may have just tweaked or stretched a few fibres and just misses the one gameweek.

If you watch the incident again he gets fouled gets back up then Besic sticks a leg out to trip him up this is where he connects with his knee.

Absolutely gutted for him lets hope its just the 4-6 weeks and not months. Would have got to 20+ League goals over the Xmas period too.

There was another player involved. Kun gets a cheap shot knock from the side as he lunges forward putting him off balance as he lands his foot.

Re: Sergio Aguero

Player and medical staff probably have a pretty good idea by now, so unless they talk, we'll have to wait for news of the scan which could take some time if there's swelling.

Most encouraging (as compared to worst case scenario) was that he was allowed to walk off. Physios are highly trained and will be looking for damage to the knee, and if they thought there was a partial tear I think they would have called for a stretcher regardless of the players wishes to walk off unaided.

Annoying to read all these claims that Aguero has done his cruciate ligaments when they can't possibly know

I look forward to Aguero's next goal. And in his absence to City and the fans doing everything for him on the pitch. We are a team.

Re: Sergio Aguero

To me it looked like the physio was considering along with Sergio that he may continue. Flexing his knee, walking him off to the other side of the pitch. Bits of conversation just looked to me like he may come back on.

I have had a very similar feeling in my knee, partially torn meniscus and swollen or strained medial ligament. I can still play, but a sudden twist or turn leave a real sharp pain for about 2 minutes then the pain passes but the knee feels weak.

Anyway, my diagnosis a small op to repair the meniscus. But it would bean two weeks without driving. It's my clutch leg. Self employed its not worth the op to preserve a dog shit Sunday league career.

My point, it hurts a lot initially, soon subsides and I'm sure Sergio will get the very best treatment. My guess, same as Spanish Dave. 3-6 weeks.

Players in real danger of serious injuries don't walk off to the wrong side of the pitch for further consultation. The players on the field, our own medical staff and Sergio himself, between them all I didn't see anything that screamed danger. If it was ACL, he would have been straight in a stretcher, straight down the tunnel. Not as I say, taken to the other side of play, with what looked like the consideration he may continue.

Fingers crossed I'm right. If I'm wrong there should be questions asked of our medical staff, I know folk who've damaged the ACL and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate a 200 yard walk in the freezing cold. Or Sergio is was one very tough young man.

Re: Sergio Aguero

very bad news but come on lads we are not a 1 man team YES he is special and can win games on his own and the records show that but we win lose or draw as a team

we just can't let it get to the team somebody has to put there hand up and say right its my time to shine and give that 110% this is for AGUERO lets go out win for him its right back in our own hands with the gap down to 3 points to Chelsea and they are not going to lose many this season so lets put in a shift in for aguero the main aim is to retain the premier league

Re: Sergio Aguero

When I tore my ACL there was no way I could walk that far. Everyone is different though I suppose. Fingers crossed for the lad.

Praying it's not season ending. MRI scan would mean they won't find out till sunday

If Keys is right and it's a big IF then ACL means season over. Let's hope it's bullshit.

Re: Sergio Aguero

Anyone else dream about the injury last night?

Had a dream I was looking for Sergio and ended up finding him working on some family market stall. Spoke about the injury and he was upbeat, telling me it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be!
