Player topic: Stevan Jovetic (2014/15)

the thing is, is he going to be "poison" to the Balkan contingent, and thus turn the heads of Dzeko and Kolarov? Thus, are we looking at the trio leaving in the summer, and is this something the club is already trying to facilitate?

Don't really want 3 under-committed players (potentially) in the squad, hopefully Pelle twists it as a decision above his head and motivates Jojo.

Just like Savic and Nastasic poisoned them?

If we can get anywhere near £20m get him gone and get someone in who can put their foot on the ball and pass it to a teammate.

I think the only reason he's been dropped from the CL squad and the only reason he's yet to have a really good run of form is due to his injuries.

I also don't buy into the idea that he loses the ball cheaply or a lot. For all of the attempts he makes to beat defenders and to get the ball passed them I don't think it's a bad ratio at all.

I can understand how being left out from the CL squad this season would be a downer, but he really should be a bit moire rational about it. We are limited in the amount of squad players we can have, - that will change next season. He has been injured a lot and should understand that it would be too much of an gamble to include him at this stage compared to let's say Bony.

So Stevan, - man up for fuck's sake and do your job. Show some appreciation and gratitude to the club which has stood buy your side all those months outside the team due to injuries.

TBH, it looks like it became a straight shoot out between Dzeko and Jovetic and the boss went with the former for a CL place. Personally I would have gone with Jovetic who I think is a proper footballer who just needs a run of fitness and games to get into his stride.

I've seen enough of him to gather the opinion that he can succeed here, but unless we play narrow with Jovetic, Silva and Nasri behind Aguero I see him vying for the No 10 shirt behind Silva and Nasri and he will have to accept there is also Milner and Navas in competition for the wider midfield roles.

In a way I'm glad he's pissed off for being dropped, but I hope he takes the view that we've stood by him with his many injury problems and its now up to him to consistently show his full potential and to force his way into the team.

Many of us saw something in Nasri when others wanted him gone. It took time for people to understand the benefit of having Nasri in the team and to understand the good he did for us and I can see the same situation developing with Jovetic.

To be brutally honest, I see more reason for us to keep Jovetic than Dzeko, we just need to keep faith with him and cement a proper role on the team for him. His constant injuries haven't helped his cause, but as he's pointed out, has he been injured any more than Kompany or Aguero?

It will be interesting to see if he gets a start on Saturday. If he doesnt play in a home PL game, the weekend before a CL game, then it wouldnt augur well for his future at City.

Spot on for me. He is a talented player who has probably tried too hard. One thing he has in abundance over Edin is desire and tenacity. He always has his head up, looks positive and is willing to have a go at the man in front of him. Yes he will be sore right now, but I would want him to knuckle down, prove his worth and be here next season.

I think Jovetic is a top player & would do fine at City if he was treated as a key player & there was a desire to make the team fuction with him in it.

But probably due to his injuries, there has been little effort to adjust the team to accomodate Jovetic. He is just thrown in & expected to play as a direct replacement for whoever, in whatever position, rather than as part of a tactical or formational change designed to get the best out of him.

I don't expect to be seeing him next season, & I will be surprised if we see Dzeko unless he really bucks up in the last part of this season. I think he needs a big finish in order to keep his job. Unless Bony is totally shite of course & we can't risk selling Dzeko, but I can't see Bony being shite in City's team.

I think Jovetic & Edin are most likely gone in the summer.

Absolutely agree.

Anyone can see the enthusiasm when he takes to the field and its understandable that his first sign of dissatisfaction have come after being effectively put behind Dzeko in the pecking order.

They train together every day and Jovetic will probably feel (with good justification) that's he's a more talented footballer than Dzeko, but I see the decision that Pellegrini has taken as a choice between going with 2 out and out strikers for the balance of the CL campaign in Aguero and Bony or with 3 including Dzeko. Yes, Jovetic can play as an out and out striker, but he's best playing just off the main forward and providing the link between attack and midfield.

If there was a position we could survive with one less player it would have been attacking midfield. After what happened over the festive period, MP probably didn't want to take the risk and go with just 2 specialist strikers which I can accept and hopefully Jovetic can too. I just hope this has been explained to Jovetic and it wouldn't do us any harm if the club made a specific statement to that fact and backed it up by increasing Stevan's playing time on merit in the Premier League to compensate and appease him.
