I cant think of another player who has gone from being so good to being so bad in such a short space of time. Kompany was responsible directly or indirectly for all four goals today and his unpredictability is having an adverse knock on effect on the rest of the defense.

Mangala is not a natural footballer, but given a specific job to do and a structure within which to do it he seems adequate. This is why Mangala plays much better alongside the much steadier, more reliable MDM. Alongside Vinnie Mangala has one eye on his own player and one eye on Kompany's next mistake.

I'd love to know what is the cause of our captains decline. Until we do he's too much of a loose cannon to risk at the heart of our defense if we want to win something this season.
. "Our captains decline" "loose cannon" defence with an S.

Interestingly the VK and MP threads always tend to both be busy after we concede a few. I think that that's part of the problem. Even the most knowledgeable folk on here seem unable to decide if the problem is Kompany or MP's system/organization of the defense. FWIW I can't recall the last time I saw our midfield putting in a defensive shift when we were put under pressure. I hate to say it, but if we had a twat like Roy Keane in the middle, I bet the defense would look better straight away.

I'm in the 'Pellers system (assuming there is a fucking system) is reducing the back line to gibbering wrecks' camp. The long punt upfield has been a successful ploy against us ever since Pellers first pitched up. I'm bored with the high line obsession and even more bored talking about it. We will play some great games this season, concede too many stupid goals and crash out of Europe when we meet the first half decent side. And there will be many earnest posts about how actually we defend extremely well even as the goals against tally tots up and our CB's run out in big shoes and red noses.

And then we will end up winning the title. It's the way we roll.

I would love to see us better organised though with a greater balance between attack and defence. But it ain't going to happen and Pellers is in his last season so no sense stressing over it.

would pogba do the job we never replacer dejong

We never did replace De Jong did we? Something that seems to be forgotten along with the importance of his contribution to shutting down tight games. I think it's a stretch to tout Pogba as the answer to (at last) replacing NDJ as well as Yaya - if he can do both things at once then he truly is worth the figures quoted
