Prior and during deployment, we were all given briefs on who we were looking for and who was looking for us. Anybody who came through that era knew exactly what you could and couldn’t do, which comes back to the point that you just cannot slot somebody who isn’t an immediate threat. It did you're right but the rules on dickers in the early days were murky.
Either way, still not the senior service :)*You spelt Bootneck wrong
I'm fairly sure I frequented your boats from time to time, and a few before me since 1664.....Either way, still not the senior service :)

Actually it does happen. Often people are called to the bar but don’t make the cut and get pupillage and then go on to cross qualify as a solicitor. They are still technically a (non-practising) barrister so in circumstances of egregious professional misconduct as a solicitor the Bar Standards Boards has to go through the charade of disbarring them, after the SRA has struck them off from the Roll of Solicitors. How can you disbar a solicitor?
Absolutely wrong. Any lawyer’s principal and overriding professional duty is to the court, not their client. In circumstances where the two are in conflict, the court must take precedent, even if it means withdrawing from representing the client.I’m finding it odd that people are criticising a lawyer for doing everything he can to represent his client. Lawyers aren’t there to take a balanced view. Their role is to try and get every advantage they can for their client. It’s up to a judge or jury to take a balanced view and apportion guilt.
Bar association?Solicitors aren't part of or regulated by the Bar association.
You mean struck off.
