Political relations between UK-EU

Welcome to customs barriers, example 147, and rising.

Previously, we were all in the same customs area and regulatory market so there was never an issue. Now everything is an issue until you legally prove otherwise. This is especially true of foodstuffs.

1/ we don't mass manufacture EVERYTHING in the UK.
2/ I was led to believe Brexit was about trading with the world.

As confirmed by the taxman.

‘HMRC boss Jim Harra confirms that consumers will be hit by price hikes when they order goods from the EU online.

1. VAT
2. customs duties if goods is not EU/Brit product under rules of origin rules.
3. cost of courier/Royal mail for doing the customs clearance for you. €12’

And the rules of origin are fairly incomprehensible, a mountain of work and HMRC will be after everyone when they inevitably misinterpret them.
 
How long will businesses last when they are at such a fundamental disadvantage?

Or alternatively, how long before the inevitable collapse towards the equilibrium?

so unless there is some kind of 'new deal', all of that is permanent isn't it?
No amount of automation will eliminate those charges although it might make the overall process more efficient given time and money.

TBF Tayto crisps are the best....im sticking with them anyway :-)
