I'm afraid I will never forget the way they sacrificed the care home population during early to middle covid time.
Yes. Another example of crass incompetence or worse. In Scotland Sturgeon was also lacking in this respect and patients were discharged from hospitals into care homes untested. The difference being she has admitted it and apologised. She has also sponsored an independent review that will commence this year. Who knows what will come out of that and wether politician, health service or both are culpable.

Reading between the lines I think some on this page have spent 5 years saying how bad it will be, they have to dramatise the issues that have happened to an even greater degree than is accurate to prove how right they were.

There’s no doubt Brexit has caused issues but people saying we’re absolutely fucked are ignoring the state of the economy.
We are fucked. As I said in a previous post, the brexit problems are getting a little bit worse every single day. Brexiters seemed to think we were claiming that day 1 of brexit, Gove would snap his fingers and half of business in britain would disappear, so anything above that proves that the argument for not shooting ourselves in the dick was incorrect and brexit is great. But we're not fucked just because we left the EU, we're fucked because leave won and the single most incompetent bunch of wankers in living memory got handed the reigns of government. Dominic Raab is our foreign secretary. Tell me that isn't proof we're absolutely fucked?

5 years ago those of who were forecasting a shitshow were engaged in debate with a good number who were claiming project fear. Now fishing is fucked - now farming has been sold down the river - now the border checks and tax increases that were absolutely promised were never going to happen are in place - all those we were engaged with have melted away - can't face up to the fact they were wrong, wrong, wrong.

Some of the harsh truths they are running away from todays news - we held all the cards looks pathetic and laughable now

Why are we fucked? Not why as in how you think this happened but why as in what is going to happen to the UK economy in the say, the next 5 years?

Don't do it to yourself, buddy. It's a lost cause, we're all fucked. Go spend your time in the Cat Backpack thread, it'll be more productive.

As your first two links say, the pandemic is also to blame for those things.

We’ve been over food shortages and lorry drivers missing, you confirmed we’re 100,000 short of drivers but in that confirmation, only 15% was linked to Brexit.

Read between the lines all you like my 'new to the party' friend but there is little need to dramatise, merely to reflect what is happening. Stuff that many on here predicted before, during and after the vote. As for the economy, the vast majority of projections are for the economy to grow significantly less because of Brexit. As someone else said, we are still in the amuse bouche course of this particular dogs dinner. Brexit is the single biggest act of self harm any developed nation has inflicted on itself since ww2.

Why not share with us your analysis of the likely future of the NI protocol?

The Guardian even said this week there’s a lot of confidence in the Economy at the moment, so I’m reading issues with trade but the economy generally isn’t doing too shabby.

Regarding NI, I gave my opinion the other day, I think within the next few years Scotland and NI will go, with the latter uniting with ROI.

Scotland will eventually come back and ask to rejoin the UK.

Ok. In my mind, I have now moved you from innocent abroad to wum.
cheers mate.

Read the news Octavian. Supply chain is fucked and we haven't fully implemented the full border checks yet (btw, i know for a fact we don't have the staff or processes in place to be able to handle this when it does fully go into place due to government incompetence). As another poster said, farming screwed, fishing's screwed etc etc. I have no idea what the specifics are of the next 5 years, but with this crowd of jokers in charge i'm going to predict there will be lots of sabre rattling with fuck all substance.

No, we spent five years arguing with (a) people who said stupid things then moaned about being called stupid, (b) people who didn't mind they were lied to, (c) people who blamed Remainers for trying to stop the shitshow, (d) people who don't care what happens in Ireland, or to the UK, (e) one bloke who moaned about his low pay but maintained he liked the job, and didn't need to visit other countries to experience other cultures as they were all here but objected to more immigration, and (f) one bloke who was quite content for the benefits of Brexit to take 50 years to be evident, blamed any problems on negotiating incompetence and thinks Lord Frost was a perfect fit and would negotiate a good deal, then announced he was trying to get resident status in the EU.

They've all bogged off, and now you've arrived, making a virtue of your ignorance about the issues and - having voted Remain - in a few days have come up with all the crap arguments for Brexit that we spent five years saying were crap.

I hate to be blunt. True, you've become a bit of a punchbag for it, but we've missed being able to have a go at anyone still willing to defend the shitshow.

To be fair I haven’t once defended the decision to leave and I don’t have to, as I voted the other way. I think it’s easy to think we’re absolutely fucked by following media and Twitter posts that are focused on selling headlines and making things seem worse, maybe they are right but the newspapers, even the left wing and anti Brexit ones, aren’t talking of impending doom.

I’m just an optimist I think.

I have read the news and I’m reading the economy is doing alright. Hence my confusion in coming in here to read we’re knackered.

I hope you’re wrong.
