Positives To Take From Today

There's plenty of positives, or at least reasons not to be negative.

There's the obvious one, which is that some of us won't have to spend over £1000 on going to the shithole that is Paris, and risk watching us lose to Liverpool. Plus our players now have to only focus on the league title, which we're just 4 wins maximum from retaining. That will be 4 PL titles in 5 seasons, which is the best united ever did.

And at the end of the day it's just a football game; 22 men kicking a ball around. Last night was disappointing but City (or any team) winning the CL doesn't cure disease, stop war or eliminate poverty.

I don't usually share much personal stuff on here but from a personal perspective, my daughter gave birth to a gorgeous little girl on Saturday and it was very touch-and-go for both mother and baby. The umbilical cord got trapped during the delivery, which led to a sudden loss of oxygen to the baby, meaning an emergency section had to be done within minutes.

Fortunately they saved the baby but in the process my daughter suffered a massive haemorrhage, losing 1.9 litres of blood. That's known as a Class 3 Haemorrhage, and is nearly 40% of your total blood. Fortunately they managed to stop it in time and she survived, but needed a couple of transfusions soon afterwards. The loss of just another pint would probably have been fatal, leaving two little girls without their mum and me without my daughter. Both are back home and seem fine now fortunately. So last night wasn't important for me in the overall scheme of things.

And between September 2017 and summer 2019, I suffered a series of issues that left me unable to work and, as I was freelance, earning no money. I was over £25k in debt at one point but started to get it under control and reduce it about 18 months ago. This morning I paid the last penny of that off and I can't tell you how good that feels.

So remember that, however disappointing last night was, there's worse things that happen in life and City winning or losing doesn't change those, or the blessings you may have.

Have a great day Blues.
Mate, I'm so chuffed for you....on all counts. Got me proper emotional, reading that.....as you say, sometimes a little perspective is required in life's tougher times.

Wishing nothing but the best of luck and love to your two girls

No positives from last night. So much baggage comes with a defeat in that manner that it can change careers.

Almost as bizarre as Sterling’s yellow card for a perfectly good tackle and three minutes extra time in extra time when one Real player spent at least that long rolling around on the floor.

Yes, again, BT comms were appalled by the decision to book Sterling.

From the TV pictures, from when play stopped to when it started for the two Dramatic Deaths of Militao, lost time was 4.52. 3 minutes was just blatantly wrong, and then he played less!

Don't think we did take risks. We were very passive the first 60 minutes as if we were frightened of a very mediocre Madrid side. We should have played our normal game. They would have conceded.
I do agree that once ahead more pragmatism was in order.
I don't think we were frightened, it was always going to be cagey but we had the best chances of the first half and we had a couple of chances in the second to finish it off.

I can't really think of what we could of done differently. As much as there's an argument to block it up and defend better, there's the same argument that after we got our first we should of kept Kev on, thrown Grealish on and tried to score as many as we could....

Not many positives I suppose when the result is what matters in knock out competition that we clearly are now competitive in without getting the chocolates so far.

Now to reset for the final four games of the season and do our bit to ensure we land the trophy we all wish for at the start of the season for a the fourth time in 5 years.

As for the Chumps League if you keep chipping at the wall it will eventually crack.

Felt sorry for the lads after the work they put in but who knows how the final would have panned out if we made it.

What a great post. You are so right. Without going into too much detail I am just back home from the MRI where I underwent life-saving surgery for cancer and am now on a long road to recovery. I watched the Madrid Semi first leg on my phone in an acute surgical ward (part of ICU) and the two beds opposite me were occupied by two Blues who were very ill but well enough to smile and put a thumbs up when we scored. The old Bill Shankly quote: "Football is not life or death...it's much more important" is flippant of course. But last week one of my pals, another staunch Blue, said to me:"Football is nothing and it's everything." I will always remember that quote.
I wish your daughter and baby a speedy recovery Colin.

He went off just before we scored? Him & Walker.
