Nope sorry calling fake Internet news on this. The new settlers slaughtered buffalo for their skins, leaving the meat to rot. First nations only killed when food was required. The settlers shot the buffalo for sport and to clear the plains for cattle as well. It was not done as genocide.The almost total eradication of the buffalo in the US had only one purpose, and that was to starve the indigenous first-nation population into oblivion, genocide that is firmly under the carpet of white history. "Plausible deniability" trumps any moral issues, aided and abetted by a complicit and racially driven press. La plus ca change etc...
A further problem was the native Americans were forced onto reservations but most were nomadic and followed the buffalo. This had the effect of starving them but it was not deliberate genocide
