Post Something Interesting

Newtown (mid Wales) where I live, is the home of Pryce Pryce-Jones who set up the world's first mail order company in 1861.

He is also credited with the invention of the sleeping bag.

He had 2 sons that played international football for Wales too!

The Cane toad has come into some renown in Australia, where four people died last year after partaking of its marbled flesh. (Depending on the size of the toad and the concentrations of toxin consumed, bufotenine can be fatal). The toad was imported to Australia from Hawaii in 1935 to kill the grayback beetle, which was destroying sugar cane in Queensland. The toad adapted beautifully, multiplied by the millions and ate everything--except for the beetle.

Watched a programme, River monsters with Jeremy Wade, and he explained how swathes of Oz and its wildlife, both fish and land have been decimated by this creature....however, several generations later the indigenous species are slowly building up a resistance to its poison....what goes around, comes around.

we live at the only place on the planet where the cloud forest comes down to the beach. Today was a good example of this as the forest behind us was covered in cloud/ mist right down to the breakers. It is only a small area where this happens, a couple of miles at the most, a few clicks down the road there are cactus, its like semi desert.

We live in a place very similar, some knotweed grows right down to the river and today the rugby pitch was covered in cloud and mist. A mile down the road next to the car park the council have planted some spikey things and covered the soil with bark, it's like a semi desert. You dont live in Wales do you.

Graves are also East west oriented.

Body placed facing up and feet facing East. The headstone is actually at the feet end of the grave.
The exception to this rule is the vicar so that when buried they are facing their flock.

Perhaps conceived in a sleeping bag, a world first.
