Post Something Interesting

1925 was 100 years ago.
in point of fact, where i live, that is not the case.

here the calendar is hijri.
(based on the lunar year not the solar,
approximately 11days shorter than the gregorian)
so it is actually only 1446 anno hegaeri,
specifically, the 28th of dhu al-hijjah 1446.

and because it is based upon the moon,
the exact date of the new year 1447 is yet undecided,
it will either be the gregorian 26th or 27th of june.

just sayin'

Many (many) years ago, my mam used to say that everything sold in Marks and Spencer's was made in Britain, except for bananas.

She's probably spinning in her urn if she knows what it's like now.
I worked in a food factory in the mid 70's, and among others, we made products for M & S.

Their quality control set the standard in those days, and a contract with them was a real badge of honour.

We danced to their tune, and if they wanted something changing, we changed it.

As I get older, I sometimes forget how old I actually am.
I have to work it out.
This sometimes involves counting on fingers, like I did when I was fucking five.

The chicken dance?

EU did that to you.

Dons tin hat. :)
No, it's got nothing to do with the EU, though I do get the meaning of your post.

Yes, we have done that to ourselves, sold everything off to the highest bidder.

No tin hat is required Bill.

I don't know of any other country that has so little ownership of essential infrastructure in it's own hands, and brands associated with the UK being foreign owned are ten a plenty.

We don't even own our post office any more, and we invented the postage stamp.

We invented the lawnmower, and my neighbours grass is a fucking disgrace.

No members of Hermans Hermits were hermits.
But did any have crabs?

On the subject of interesting facts, when Peter Noone left as lead singer, he was replaced by Peter Cowap, who lived just across the road from us. Used to see him on the bus when we got off at the same stop. Incidentally, I also used to see Victoria Wood on the same bus, before she became famous and was doing a temporary job in Manchester.
