Post Something Interesting

Cutting a tablet in two only halves the dosage if there is a line down the middle of the tablet which is to indicate the medication in the tablet is evenly spread.

How do you know this?
They're just a little bit secretive, but Google is my friend...

It is believed that around 15 of Russia's many "closed" cities are only represented on classified maps that are not available to the general public. They may however, be shown obliquely, as a nearby insignificant village, with the name of the transport stop serving the closed city deliberately misleading.

For mail deliveries, a closed city is usually named as the nearest large city and a special postcode, for example, Arzamas‑16, Chelyabinsk‑65.

The actual settlement can be rather distant from its namesakes; for instance, Sarov, designated Arzamas-16, is in the federal republic of Mordovia, whereas Arzamas is in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, roughly 75 km (47 miles) away.

People not living in a closed city are subject to document checks and security checkpoints, and explicit permission is required for them to visit. To relocate to a closed city, one would need security clearance by the organization running it, such as the KGB in Soviet closed cities.

The very fact of a closed city's existence is often classified, and residents are expected not to divulge their place of residence to outsiders. This lack of freedom is usually compensated by better housing conditions and a better choice of goods in retail trade than elsewhere in the country.

I live in Yerkershire…it has been closed to civilisation since Danegeld held sway here. Lancashire never succumbed to the Danish hoards, repelled by the Mancs, and so is centuries ahead of this heathen place. Skipton can be found on some maps as it was Lancs HQ in the War of the Roses.

October 7, 1959: The city council election in Sao Paulo, Brazil had a surprise winner — Cacareco, a five-year-old female rhinoceros at the local zoo.

Not only did Cacareco win, but she did so by a landslide, getting 100,000 votes (15% of the total). This was one of the highest totals for a local candidate in Brazil's history to that date.

Cacareco's candidacy was traced back to a group of students who had printed up 200,000 ballots with her name on them, but the ballots were all legitimately cast by voters, one of whom commented: "Better to elect a rhino than an ass."

The director of Sao Paulo Zoo said that he expected Sao Paulo Council to pay Cacareco's Councilman's salary, but election officials nullified all her ballots and a new election was held the following week.

Due to the size of her victory, Cacareco is thought to be the most famous animal candidate ever. However, she wasn't the first animal elected to political office... not even in Brazil.

In 1954 a goat named Smelly was elected to the city council in Jaboatao.

why would you want to cut a pill in half?

nobody who danced in the hacienda ever cut a pill in half.

edit:
if you cut something in half 90 times you will be left with an atom.
or less.
