Prices for the away leg in Madrid SOLD OUT.

How do you consult with the fans ? Email, open forum at the ground ? all you will get is 1,000+ different opinions - just look at this forum as an example. The club are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

You're not going to please everyone every time but imo the club has a responsibility to listen to supporters, and also to speak to supporters.

With something like this (and I don't really have an opinion on whether it's a good or bad thing at this point) I don't think it would be too hard to let the supporters know in advance what the changes will be and why they are being made.

Then encourage supporters to feedback their experiences with the new change. Pretty sure the club would review their procedures after every European away so why not take advantage of the opportunity to involve the support.

I don't particularly object to picking the ticket up in the host city but please make it somewhere central and easy to get to/find so I'm not wasting half a day looking for it and a fortune on transport to get to the pick up point and back.
On a similar point if they introduce it for domestic fixtures that will most likely be me finished with aways.

Personally I think they should have the pick up point in a completely different city, possibly even a completely different country. Can't be too careful with security and presumably the more complicated it is to pick up the ticket, the less chance there is of the terrorists getting into the away section with their suicide belt?

I just don't see a reason that justifies the inconvenience. As you rightly said it's not points whoring helping a mate out. most people will of done it at some point, the points are a bonus to helping a friend out I'd like to believe. It's more aimed at the people saying its security related etc. Not heard one solid reason why this solution helps anything.
It helps me. I've got around 10,000 points and been to a few European aways. I've only managed to get a ticket on my own account once so for the others I've had to leave arranging travel until I sorted the ticket which has cost me a fortune. There's a few other European aways where I've wanted to go but couldn't get a sniff of a ticket. If I know I can get a ticket with my 10,000 points it means I can plan my travel ahead and also get the points I should get. If it means someone with fewer points missing out because he always gets his ticket off someone with loads of points who never goes then I don't see a problem with that.

You haven't read my post properly then. This apparently isn't about stopping people sorting others for tickets, so whilst it will help you and blues with the right amount of points will rightly go that isn't Citys reasoning behind it. If that was the case we wouldn't see the Belgium crew every away game. Whilst it may have a backhanded benefit as you have stated that isn't the clubs reasons for doing it and my point is I haven't heard a valid reason why it's done.

This forum has moaned about Points whores -not my word, a word used regulalry on this forum for years. We moaned that genuine Blues could not get tickets for Ajax never mind Barcelona. We moaned that the problem was people bought them to keep their points total high - and now the club have done something about it - eveyone moans.
Everyone wanted to go to Seville because it is sunny and the beer is cheap rather than the football - Juventus proved that, cold, awkward to get to dear beer = loads of tickets, I wanted to go to Seville but did not dare risk paying for flights and travel before knowing if I would get a ticket, by the time I knew I could get a ticket the prices were out of my reach.
PSG went to zero points because everyone was told of the new system. I booked my travel and hotel well before my ticket.

I really do not see what the problem is.

If a club with the structure of Manchester City doesn't know how to consult it's fan base they should pack up and go home, just like you.

I know I've read it all enforce blah fucking blah mate, you're a one trick pony. If you can't offer anything to the debate then just log off.

And it has nothing to do with points whores, you're just falling for the baloney.

Just because it's an unintended consequence doesn't make it not a good reason for doing it, whether it's City's official reason or not.

I haven't said its a good or bad reason. What I am saying is City have put this in place for a reason, security I believe however there hasn't been one reason to justify it. The reply cant be oh well the right blues are getting tickets as that's bugger all to do with security.

PSG specifically insisted on it for security reasons and the reason given was that they know who is sat in the seat. From a security standpoint this is very effective and it is far less likely to be an undesirable. However it is conceded that it would be very difficult to implement for the home supporters who make up the vast majority of the crowd. So whilst it doesn't eliminate potential risk it reduces it by around 5%. They have used the system in other games
