Problem with 'new' fans

Your piss weak argument was about proximity = support.
You don't do it yourself or (by your proximity rule you'd need to support all you local teams in proximity order.

Added thought is that you're not the ruler of the known universe so your small minded bleat does nothing to stop City fans being City fans regardless of where they live. . . nuff said eh?

PS. I don't mind you having a weird opinion - I'm just pointing out how weird it is. Made me laugh anyhow (thanks).

Do you know where I live?

Think first and then ask: is my argument based on complete guesswork? If my guesswork is wrong, do I look like a ****?

My point is - I find it strange that someone from Stockport does not support Stockport County. Stockport County most powerfully represent the culture of Stockport - and the culture from which a person from Stockport comes from. Hence my argument, a person from Stockport should support Stockport County. Do you follow?

It's an easy argument to follow but it's so narrow minded it's unviable.
It's not about locality it's about affinity. You follow the team that you
feel shares the same values and outlook as you. You follow the team that
makes you feel proud. Seldom is that the team in your immediate locality.
Personally I have always lived within the boundaries of Manchester City centre
so City are my local team but if I lived in Timbuctoo I would still be a blue.

Welcome one and all is what I say, yes we will gain some fans that will
only be there for the glory but I garauntee that we will also gain fans who
will be blue for life regardless of glory, their kids will be blues and so on.

The problem with new fans is, well.... they are new fans.

I am not going to waste my time debating anything about my beloved City with someone who was a Chelsea fan last season and might decide to be an Arsenal or a Spurs fan in a few months because that's the latest trend on facebook or whatever.

I'm not going to slag off new fans because a lot of them will hopefully stay and become part of the blue family. But for me, there's a bit more to it than just saying, "right, now I'm a City fan!".

definition of a glory hunter...anyway I'm new to the forum here, simply because Dzeko joined and I want to know about how are things going and what's happening within the club and how fans react to him, hence I'll support and cheer for City in every match they play except when they play Everton...that is something I?m proud of...don't hate me but...I've lived across the local team stadium, could watch every match from my balcony, but ever since I started watching EPL (at the end of 1999) I was pulled in by Everton...so there will be people like me who join here to see how are things going but not really be fans of the club...there will be those who as the quoted post says decide to, all of a sudden, become city fans, and there will be those come and remain city fans...no one can decide who is real and who's not...so don't really see the reason to discuss this...

There is no problem...it is not a problem,a s Bobby would say. New fans will latch onto a club for different reasons. We are blessed at the moment with some very charismatic players and manager. They will draw people in and win the interest of young supporters. I think Balo is worth a goldmine at the moment for this reason alone.
The other factor is we have blues coming out of the woodwork. Through the hard times they stopped going, but they are coming back.

Different issue, mate. I'm totally fine with fans of other clubs taking an interest and joining in. Brings a lot to the forum.

It's the "we" are City "we" think this and "we" think that, even though "I've" actually only been here 5 minutes mentality that I struggle with

When I had to suffer the ignominy of visiting Maccklesfield for a competitive league game or watching us lose to Lincoln, no one told me it was possible to change teams and go and support someone else.

I was born a City fan, I will die a City fan. No matter what happens in between.

So anyone who chooses to be a City fan, whatever their reason, can fuck right off as far as i'm concerned. I don't want you anywhere near my club.

Have only seen this post, unbelievable!

This was exactly my point earlier, this guy had no choice but to be a city fan, so does that make him a bigger and better supporter than me who chose my own destiny when I was 6 years old!? (I was born and brought up near Leicester).

I too will always be blue, absolutely no chance of that changing, altho it did cross my mind when I was there watching Wycombe Wanderers do the double over us is '99!!

could sumone tell me wat a plastic fan is ?????

A fan who never actually goes to a match. Think it comes from the Sky Card.

I have probably been to the Swamp more times than most Plastic Rags I work with. The ones who actually go are bricking it because of their midfield.

I fail to understand why there are so many people on this forum who are totally against so-called 'plastic' or 'new' fans switching their allegiance to City.
Maybe, just maybe some of these people have been looking for the right club to support, and for one reason or another, it doesn't happen to be their local one. Perhaps they now like City because we have the best-looking kit, maybe our renowned sense of humour as fans has attracted them. Or maybe they really are 'gloryhunters' and want to be associated with a (future) successful side.
Who f###in cares?
I was at Maine Road among crowds of fewer than 20,000 and yet our average gate is now 46,000. Doesn't that make us all 'gloryhunters'? Can't be arsed going to the game 'cos you know they're gonna lose again, yet we all go back when City are flying high in the table. I've been guilty of it as well.
What does it matter where these new fans come from? If they choose to follow my club, buy a replica shirt, go to the odd game, make sure more pubs in far-off lands show live City games when I'm holidaying there, then what's the problem?
Our club makes more money, raises its profile.
What's the first thing any Blue does when he moves away from Manc or goes on holiday abroad? We all try and convert the local population into becoming Blues.
And now there are people complaining about us having fans who don't come from the Manc area!
Or do we want to remain a closed shop? No new fans allowed unless they're from Manchester or born to current City fans. Why don't we ask for ID outside the stadium, or a passport? Sorry, your postcard doesn't begin with M, you need to take a tram to Stretford. Go and spend your money there, 'cos we don't want it!

Get real, Blues! We all want success (I know we don't want the type of fan NHL&YR attract) and won't achieve it with a 'League of Gentlemen - Are you local?' approach.

Open your arms and give a warm welcome to all who want to join the ride!!!

I agree 100%, great post. The problem is there are some who have spent so much time criticising Man U for this, that it's difficult to backtrack now and embrace it without making fools of themselves!

I will now once again be called a rag for stating this, it's this very attitude the makes a mockery of our good support though some are too blind to see it!
